Extol

I don't know if I quite agree with that statement or not. There's a very broad range of musical taste on this forum. I mean we've discussed Bon Jovi and Jimmy Buffet for cryin' out loud and every band in between!

Then explain to me why most people in this forum seem to hate death metal vocals.

They must be jealous :loco: There's absolutely no reason to say that Extol lack talent, creativity, or ambition.

I've been a fan of Extol for well over a decade since I first heard the Northern Lights compilation. I've seen them perform live twice and every year I hope and pray for their return to Cornerstone Festival in Illinois.

Extol tend to combine their brand of death metal with other genres for each album. Burial could be considered a mix of death and black metal. Mesmerised, death and industrial. Undeceived, death and progressive. Etc.. of course, there are always people who will disagree. For me, Burial is where it's at. Their newest release, The Blueprint Dives, is a quality disc but just doesn't capture me the way their other releases do.

Extol's live show is definately intense and a great display of their talent! You can tell they love playing live and put their hearts into! Oh, and they embody the defination of Sweet Mills! :p

Cool guys, too. David, the drummer, is quite possibly the world's biggest Stryper fan and even offered me any amount of money for my vintage To Hell With The Devil shirt! haha!

*Edit: This inspired me to dig up some old pics! I'll leave out the live ones, since they weren't too great afterall. All I had was a disposable camera and an angle from the moshpit! o_O

Great pics! I've always wanted to go to Cornerstone myself, but I've not made it yet. It's on my list of "To Do's". Did you get to see the Deliverance reunion show up there a while back? I love that band! :headbang:

Well, not all people on this forum hate death vox. You even said most, so that doesn't mean all. Honestly, I'm not a fan of it either, but there's certain times I can listen to death vox. The only point I was trying to make was that there's a large range of music taste here and I still stand behind that statement.

What point are you trying to make?

I like death vox myself, but I see lots of people in this forum who appear to only and I mean ONLY like Power and Progressive Metal, and not a heavier, "different" band like Extol. That's the point I was trying to make.

And I agree that most doesn't mean all. And yes, there's a large range of music taste here.

YOU BET YOUR CHEESEBURGER I WAS THERE FOR THE DELIVERANCE REUNION!!! Front row! I had one of my minions videotape it for me, along with the Guardian set! Alas, the camera exacted karmic revenge on me and forced the tape to be destroyed in order to remove it from the machine..... I don't want to talk about that anymore :bah:

I haven't been back since 2001. Stryper, Michael Sweet, Guardian, Deliverance, Trytan, Sacred Warrior, Recon, Saviour Machine, Echoing Green, and Joy Electric all in the same week.... impossible to top that. I probably won't consider going until they book Extol again. :Smokedev:

Yeah they didn't play it when I saw them either. Do you have any old live pics of Extol?? It'd be cool for some people to see those since I know there aren't many quality ones on the web. I have NO idea where my Northern Lights comp is.. I sure could use some Schaliach & GROMS!

*Edit: Old skool Xian metal trivia: What does the acronym GROMS stand for?? ((no cheating!!))

I will have to look in my archives this weekend. Mind you this show was like 2000 or 2001 something like that, maybe even as early as 1998 hell I can't remember off the top of my head.:erk: I do know that I have some promo shots I took of them from the fest. They are very cool. I will post them as soon as I drudge them up!

Do you have the Schaliach or Groms albums?

TheWhisper beat me to the punch on the trivia.

BTW I'm jealous, I have always wanted to see Saviour Machine!! I saw Wedding Party way back when, without Eric Clayton though.

I had "Schaliach" CD but I just sold it on ebay a few weeks ago.

Saviour Machine is my favorite band.

Well hence the reason I asked, silly ;) Good job, but I think you cheated.

Nah, I don't have either of those albums, surprisingly. Sure did want them though!

I was able to see Saviour Machine twice. Absolutely indescribable! Wedding Party were really cool and definately a favorite in my circle. Eric Clayton never really sang with the band, just produced their demo and EP. At least I think that's all he did.... maybe he contributed some vocals, but I know he was definately not a part of the band. I was lucky enough to have attended the legendary Wonderland Ballroom Halloween 1999 Show with Wedding Party, Rackets & Drapes, and Saviour Machine. OMG! I still haven't gotten my hands on a copy of that DVD but I had the live cd at one point. Rackets & Drapes are close friends of mine, so it was awesome to see them on that stage. That was also the same night of the infamous 'cross of flames on the flag' and 'burnig mask' pictures during Saviour Machine's set! I will never forget that night as long as I live. Seriously.

I'M JEALOUS! :erk: I didn't realize Saviour Machine played the Cornerstone Festival! I absolutly love Deliverance!!!!!!!!!!!!:headbang: How were they live? People don't know what they're missing if they prejudge Weapons of Our Warfare without listening to that masterpiece first! :worship:

I'd like to see SM at ProgPower sometime....hint....hint.....

Saviour Machine was in Minnesota around '92 or '93 with Deliverance and Saviour Machine was booted off stage on their 4th song. Ever since I hate that club (New Union and now it is Club 3 degrees).

Yeah, I heard about that. That's very lame! How was the Deliverance show?

TWICE!!:OMG: I remember R & D but never really listened to them...are they still around?

Eric did some guest vocals but you are correct, he was not a member.

I saw Deliverance when they played Up From The Ashes 2 on Sep 2 this year. Even got my pic taken with them.

I saw Extol in June of '03 and they were very impressive live. I was disappointed when Christer left the band. I will be seeing them at NordicFest next week in Oslo. It will be interesting to see what songs they play....

That's cool! I didn't realize they were still doing shows together from time to time.

Sadly, no Rackets & Drapes are no longer together. Unfortunately they suffered a severe backlash from the conservative populace, eventually leading to the band's demise. It didn't help that they reached the height of their popularity right at the crux of Marilyn Manson's controversial era. The singer, Tim Hass (aka "Kandi Kane") announced that he was born transgender and felt compelled by God to embrace this lifestyle and bring the Good Word to the TG community. Again, there were unsavory reactions that went as far as him receiving death threats, ironically from a group that proclaimed to embrace everyone. :ill: Thus the final nail in the R&D coffin. As of their last release, Tim has not performed or recorded any material for wide-spread public release, but other members have gone on to new bands or solo-projects. Rackets & Drapes helped shape the Christian underground in a monumental way, and paved the road for many acts to follow. .... *sniff* I love 'em!!

A lot of their material is still available to hear on various websites around the net, but it's all OOP unless you get lucky on eBay. If you can't find anything, let me know.. I have every release and EP. My recommendations: start with material from "Candyland" & "The Sick & the Beautiful" EP before you check out their last two releases "Trick or Treat" or "Love Letters from Hell"... trust me.

R&D are one of those bands that I wish I had been smart enough to bring along a video camera during the countless live shows I attended.

*EDIT: I knew I had these around somewhere..

Rackets & Drapes... and me. I have a million more where these came from...
