Extreme head banging/Back problems need help

My band hasn't a single show yet but I treat the rehersals like they are shows and I'm having back problems. I threw it out once but I recovered in a day at home and no one took it seriously not even me after a while I just forgot about it but does anyone here have any advice on how to deal with this? I looked everywhere on google for an article but I couldn't find one. I can't stop doing it, the rest of my band mates like my performance they see it as very energetic.

 ,dude, you're not suppossed to suck your own dick when you headbang.

Do you stretch your neck and back muscles before shows/practice? It sounds gay, but if you make sure to stretch before getting nutty, you'll feel way better after shows/practice.

One effective stretch is to basically bring your head down to where your chin is touching your chest (slowly) and then grab the back of your head as you would your girlfriend's when shes going down on you and gently pull. Don't mimic her head bobbing action or you could pull a muscle and your gig will be painful. After a few seconds of this, slowly (Slowly!) turn your head as far as comfortably possible one way (while keeping downward pressure on your head with your hands), and then the other way. Also do the old bend over and touch your toes thing. Don't worry about keeping your legs straight, although it won't hurt to stretch those either. This should stretch your back muscles a bit.

Some times when you're at a show its hard to find time for this, as you should do it as close as possible to your set, but if you have to, do it onstage while theyre soundchecking the drums. It may look funny and un-metal, but if you'll be glad you did it when all your bro's can't lift their heads because they pulled muscles. Also, with you getting nutty at practice, you're building head banging muscles. You'll be doing alot better on the tours than your band mates.

I heard Cliff Burton's dad saying Cliff would wake up the next morning after a show and be complaining about his neck, and his dad would say come on Cliff look what your doing all night and Cliff would smile about it. Cliff Burton...... and you, i admire you guys enthusiasm :) :kickass:

Dude... don't be a jackass. It's not worth ruining your health to jump around and bang your head. I fucked up my neck years ago doing that BS and still have never fully recovered from it. When your old and too deaf to listen to metal you'll still have neck and back pain... it isn't worth it.

I have the same problem. I found that doing side-to-side headbanging ("turtle banging") wasn't as painful. The Amon Amarth rotation style isn't bad either. But if none of those is any better, you just shouldn't headbang. If your bandmates complain, too bad. You certainly won't be any good to the band with an injured neck!

Do some self-tension head exercises

Basically push forward with moderate tension on your head with your hands, and push with your neck the opposite way. Hold for 10 seconds, repeat 3 times, in the four cardinal directions

Stretch

To strengthen your back, do situps. Lots of situps.

I don't know what this exercise is called but you lay face forward on the ground. Raise your legs and arms up, so you do a 'superman' flying motion. Trains your back muscles.

Most importantly though, don't go all out at practice. Save it for shows.
