Can't remember if there are any 'round these parts, but they were always a favorite of mine. Their new (old) DVD is on its way to me now for review. It's the You Fat Bastards show from The Real Thing tour and a video collection. Both are reissued, but are new to me. Such a great fucking band.

All chime in at once.

i couldnt get into em as much as others, but i did enjoy some stuff from real thing and angeldust, and a few others from their greatest hits 2cd thing.

total respect, though.

big fan, yes. Except for the pre-patton albums, ugh
Don't like those? We Care Alot is pretty spotty, but I love Introduce Yourself. Just couldn't get into Chuck?

1989 (and right around then) saw what turned out to be HUGE albums for me:

...And Justice For All (even though I like it much less now)
The Real Thing
Soundgarden's Louder Than Love
Jane's Addiction's Nothing Shocking
The return of Danzig on his first album
and soon after, Killing Joke's Extremeties, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions.
Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique

pretty much it. I don't even know if I gave Introduce Yourself that good of a listen. I've always found We Care Alot to be too abrasive to my ears, likely because of the vocals, so I never really bothered with Introduce Yourself. I love Jim Martin's guitaring, so I'll have to go back to the old ones and see if I can get through the vocals these days and refresh myself with the music. And speaking of Jim, as much as I respect Spruance, I really miss Jim when I listen to King for a Day..., which is quite a spotty album imo

Been on a FNM listening spree the past two days, this would be a perfect time to re-introduce myself with the first two albums as well.

King For a Day is my least favorite Patton-era album, although it does have its great moments. Album of the Year is slightly better, IMO, and a bit underrated.

I hear they're working on a new Tomahawk album, which is good news.

If that's the one that was filmed at the London Astoria, I was there. Mortal Sin were in support. This tour came around pretty soon after The Real Thing was released -- man, EVERYONE had that album in college. But then, FNM were already pretty big just because "We Care a Lot" was a big number.

Great live act. Great cover of War Pigs too.

I love the tits off this album, so incredible. Wasn't a big fan of their other stuff until a few years ago, to be perfectly honest. This was my first FNM experience (grammaw bought it for me on my 14th birthday, haha) and it took a long time to get over the fact that no, they didn't just make the same album over and over again.

you fat bastards is pretty cool, i saw them live on this tour,
I have the vhs (picked it up in a car boot sale for £1)
Patton looks and sounds his age on it..

I've seen some excellent / way better live perferomances by them on show ripped off euro tv
after angeldust and king they just had much better songs to play and were more 'together'

you'll enjoy the fat bastards dvd though
its a nice snapshot of a more innocent age:waah:

I hadn't heard about a new tomahawk, that's great news.

Album of the Year is definitely a step up from King for a Day, and I think it's consistantly quality all over... however it's missing a special something and the songs all just seem to be "good", but not "great", like everything on Angel Dust, and The Real Thing (except for war pigs.. ok cover, but I don't like it in the flow of the album).

Anyway, listened to Introduce Yourself this morning, and I must say that I was incredibly impressed, the music is surely 10/10.... but but but... Chuck. I am not one to rag on singers with strange styles, since most of my favorites have something strange to them to set them apart, and chuck surely has that... but he has this tone to his voice that I really can't take seriously. Fortunately, for most of the album it fits, but now and then I can't help but grimmace/laugh/cry. However , as I said, the music was top notch, definitely not what I expected.

Longtime FNM fan here, need to get Fat Bastards on DVD. I don't think early FNM is that horrible (though losing Chuck was undoubtedly the best thing to ever happen to them), but shouldn't be pursued until getting everything with Patton first. And KFAD is underrated, may be inconsistent but I think the good outweighs the uninspired on there.
