Faithless - Insomnia cover

A definate improvement man :D
i'd consider replacing that snare drum though haha

Thanks man!

I know what you mean by the snare sound, I still feel abit clueless in regards to snares though. I mean I know how to make them snappy/full/thinner/close/distant but I never know how much to do of what... Maybe I should A/B more with commercial recording and pay more attention to the snare.

i really like it, very atmospheric
the snare sounds quite ok to me actually, but i think you could use a hihat sample which is more opened and rings out a litte bit longer

of course, the coolest thing are the vocals
for some reason they instantly reminded me of this hahaha:

i'm curious how did you process them?

just in case if you wanna try out the synthesizer sound from the original version

just download "faithless pizzicato" and mess around with some effects, i think its possible to get pretty close to the original tone

Try processing somewhat like this:
low pass at 50-60hz, boost anywhere from 5-9db at 200hz (recmmended by joey sturgis and there hasnt been a mix ive done in a LONG ass time that hasnt had a whole lot of 200hz in the snare), a cut around 900hz-1khz, a boost at 5khz and a shelving boost above say.. 8khz?
Don't go too crazy with any of the cuts or boosts aside from the 200hz one, but I find that's what really makes the difference for me. It gives the snare a tubby, thick, full sound, and so much attack it should be illegal.
Snares I think are too thin often sound amazing to my ears with lots of 200hz 8)
It can completely alter the characteristic of a snare sound imo.
be careful with adding crack to AD snares, cos they're already cracky as fuck.

I played it to someone who isn't really into metal but loves faithless and has a very open mind musically. He loved it. I gotta say it is pretty fucking awesome! good work!

Thanks! I really didn't trust myself to know if the vocals worked or not! (since its me on vocals) But the processing was pretty simple, each went into there own TSS with slightly different settings, just to get them nice and dirty sounding, then it was all reverbs and delays. Other than that I did the old reverse-add-reverb-then-reverse-again to get the fadin etherial intros.

thanks again, I'll look into it, I do love that sound.

I'm always very wary of adding much low end to the snare since I always end up with it sounding tubby, maybe I should use more in moderation. Cheers for the tips, I will keep them in mind!
