Jeff Buckley - 1966 - 1997

mh, i dont know. he was talented as in he could do many things at a very early age. but most of his stuff i totally uninspired, lacks depths. sure he knew his stuff ... it's just so tame (compare to beethoven who was roughly in the same time). he is a bit like a pop-star to all classical music. his music is easily memorable and ppl recognize the hooks and hterefore think he is so awesome ...

I hardly think you could call his Requiem a Top40 hit, nor the outstanding aria for the Queen Of The Night!

Anyway - my contribution to this thread:

Marin Marais: 1656-1728

Jean-Baptiste Lully:1632–1687

And, lastly, one of the greatest EVER!!!

Johann Sebastian Bach: 1685 – 1750

Sorry for the overload :)

This thread is getting kinda sad.

Seeing all these amazing and talented people, no longer around to continue their art that we all beg for... especially that some of them came to horrible ends.

It sucks.

As a Gen X'er, I can tell you that back in 1994, I along with my friends, was totally destroyed by this man's suicide. What a horrible waste of a wonderful songwriter.

Died way before his time. Do yourself a favor and go listen to The Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore East. Best live album EVER. The 22 minute version of Whipping Post is especially amazing.
