So I got the leak of the new Rage album "Speak of the Dead" and besides the loads and loads of ass kickery and awesomeness, it includes what is probably one of the coolest band/orchestra recordings I've ever heard in the 20+ minute epic "Lingua Mortis Suite." If you enjoy works like The Odyssey, you will no doubt love the Lingua Mortis Suite, although it does have a less prog and overall darker vibe than The Odyssey does.

The rest of the album is heavy as fuck, a fine mix of the more recent Rage offerings and their "Black in Mind" days, and features some of Victor Smolski's most awesome guitar playing I've ever heard from him.

If this doesn't make people's top 10 of '06 list I'll have lost faith in the collective judgement of the metal community. :D

Next person to say Rage sucks has to listen to "Take the Power Back" and "Know Your Enemy." When you're done getting your face shredded off, come on back. Few bands were writing rock this good during the 90s.

The Rage I started the thread (the real Rage) about is about 100x better than that "other" Rage :p

I have only one song by Rage, and that is their cover of "Tom Sawyer." I'd say that they're a competent band.

Its too bad, love the music but really dislike the melodies and singer. Top 10 of 2006? Yeah if Im counting least listened to CD's maybe.

YOu need to hear their actual songs, especially the recent stuff with the new lineup. Their current guitarist, Victor Smolski, is just as top notch of a shredder as Romeo or any other player like that.

these aren't from the current album, but they give a good idea as to what the current lineup sounds like:

and to John and Evil: don't you have some sub-par Dream Theater knockoff bands to listen to? ;)

The musicianship is pritty tight, but the vocals just dont do a thing for me, he sounds to much like Lemmy.

The guitarist is OK, but I just dont see the "top notch shredding" aside from the very Herman Li like whammy pedal licks...

YOu don't really see it in those clips, he's laying back quite a bit. Trust me, if you saw their DVD and watched his unacompanied solo you'd realize it. Everyone who saw Rage's set at Progpower 4 said that they thought he was at least on par with, if not better, than Romeo.
