The first track of an album can sometimes make or break the whole deal. In some cases it may even be the best song while the others tend to drag.

What are your guys' favorite Track #1's? The ones that really set the mood for the entire CD.

...and save your collective breaths with your Angel of Death's, One's, Holy War's, and the like we already know that those are classics.

Here are some of the greats and my personal faves.

Vital Remains - "Dechristianize"
Probably one of the best openers ever.....exemplified in its case by the fact that ther rest of the album never manages to top it. (not nearly)

meh, I can think of song after song after song that is awesome and just happens to be the first track of an album, but for being a good 'opener', the first track for me really has to set-up the oncoming album, or distinguish itself by completely blowing the rest of the album away (Dechristianize) or something else like that. A song, basically, that works best at the start, and wouldn't really feel right or fit in if it was arranged somewhere else in the tracklisting.

With my own criteria in mind, I can't think of any openers offhand that I find amazing. I'll think of some later tho.

Disgorge - Revelations XVIII
Psycroptic - The Colour of Sleep
Aborted - The Holocaust Incarnate
Saprogenic - Occular Desication
Retch - Vomitous Anal Douche Ingestion
Cinerary - Undying
Severe Torture - Butchery of the Soul

I agree with those two. The Colour of Sleep isn't anything different from the rest of the album, but it still stands on its own and is the perfect opener.

Revelations XVIII for the sinister, kickass ending that makes you feel like the real brutality is still to come. :heh:

Metallica - Blackend(..and justice for all)
Metallica - Enter Sandman(Black Album)
Metallica - Fight fire with Fire(Ride the Lightning)
Metallica - Hit the lights (Kill 'em all)
Cannibal Corpse - Severed head stoning(Tomb of the mutilated)
Nile - The Blessed Dead (In their darkend shrine)
Hammerfall - The dragon lies bleeding (Glory to the brave)
Hammerfall - Riders on the storm(Crimson Thunder)
Testament - Eerie inhabitants(The new order)
Slayer - Angel of Death (Reign in blood)
The Kovenant(Covenant) - Towards the crown of nights(In times before the light)
Cattle Decapitation - Testicular Manslaughter(To Serve Man)
Arch Enemy - Silent Wars(Anthems of Rebellion...i know it's not the track #1 but it's the first actual song on the album)
Emperor - Into the infinity of thoughts(In the nightside eclipse...read arch enemy)

I'll try to think of more later.

That's the opener of The Wretched Spawn. If you're thinking of Tomb of the Mutilated, then you'd mean Hammer Smashed Face.....which I'd imagine is much more likely. =)

Your post reminds me though;

Testament - D.N.R. :kickass: :kickass: :kickass:

Yeah! It goes really well into She Lay Gutted as well. Gets a bit monotonous from then on, but still.

Whoa! Caught myself in a senior moment there! I have no idea why I mentioned "One" as that is the 4th track into 'And Justice For all'
