FavoUrite albums of 2013

Cult of Luna - Vertikal
Jesu - Everyday I Get Closer To The Light From Which I Came
Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn
Inquisition - Obscure Verses
Gorguts - Colored Sands
Darkthrone - The Underground Resistance
Vhol - Vhol
Subrosa - More Constant Than The Gods
Ruins of Beverast - Blood Vaults
A Storm of Light - Nations To Flames

The Aristocrats - Culture Clash

There is probably some good metal out there but I don't listen to metal anymore. It scares me.
I did buy Beyond Creation's - The Aura though. It's pretty good

Suffocation - Pinnacle of Bedlam
Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle
Toxic Holocaust - Chemistry of Consciousness

Are probably my favorites but there was some more great albums.

Deafheaven are fucking atrocious. I'm sure I'm not alone in this opinion round here. Happy black metal? Get fucked.

Not that I heard the entire album, but I'm more likely to make it through a song from Lulu before that tripe. Gross.

It's really not a matter of good or bad, just the number of people who weighed in on it and rated it. Despite how many publications they may have been in, I would not have heard of them had they not opened for Alcest. And when I saw them, it was Alcest, Deafheaven and Vaura... in front of 300 people... on a Saturday night... in Brooklyn. How popular could they possibly be if them and two other solid artists, can only draw 300 people to a club in Brooklyn (the capital of Hipstervile) on a Saturday night? Soilwork, by themselves, drew 1,300 people on a Tuesday. Yet more people weighed in on Deafheaven than Soilwork? Odd.

if they're not livevlogged on tumblr and released on limited edition splatter flexidisc, frankly i dont care much about these so called "concerts" good sir *adjusts glasses, tips fedora*

Ulver - Messe I.X - V.X
October Falls - The Plague of a Coming Age
Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn

Those are the 3 albums that blew me away in 2013. Granted, they might be the only 2013 albums I even heard, but all rule quite mightily indeed.

Probably the best Ulver release in a decade. That makes me :) .

I haven't been highly impressed by them since A Quick Fix of Melancholy, but Messe is back to them being Ulver. Listen to it* loud!
