What are some of your favourite song lyrics?

It doesn't have to be metal, it can be from any genre, just any song that has a special meaning to you and you really like. :)

Music is very close to my heart so I really pay close attention to the lyrics of every song I hear as they sometimes speak to us and can say the things from our hearts that we cannot voice. :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How long I have wanted,
this dream to come true
and as it approaches
I can't believe I'm through

I've tried,
oh, how I've tried
For a life, yes a life
I thought I knew

Oh it's the price we gotta pay
and all the games we gotta play
Makes me wonder if it's worth it to carry on

'Cause it's a game we gotta lose,
though it's a life we gotta choose
and the price is our own life until it's done

Time seems to have frozen,
but the mind can be fooled
As the days pass I discover
Destiny just can't be ruled

Hard times,
oh hard times,
for the prize, yes the prize,
I thought I knew

Oh it's the price we gotta pay
and all the games we gotta play
Makes me wonder if it's worth it to carry on

'Cause it's a game we gotta lose,
though it's a life we gotta choose
and the price is our own life until it's done

Oh it's the price we gotta pay
and all the games we gotta play
Makes me wonder if it's worth it to carry on

'Cause it's a game we gotta lose,
though it's a life we gotta choose
and the price is our own life until it's done

Oh it's the price we gotta pay
and all the games we gotta play
Makes me wonder if it's worth it to carry on

'Cause it's a game we gotta lose,
though it's a life we gotta choose
and the price is our own life until it's done

Twisted Sister - The Price

I was locked all day in the summer heat,
In a small brown house in Suburban Street,
With a skateboard and my shit guitar,
I'd dream all day that they would get me far,
My dad would ask me about my grades,
The asshole sports that I never played.
And then I'd ask about the girls he'd date,
Behind our backs when mom would stay up late.
It was near when I turned sixteen,
Got kicked out of school, and so it seemed
that things were closing in and ready to blow,
My dad moved out about that year or so,
It took an hour to start a punk rock band
To offset my fucked up family land
And as I held my mom would start to cry
I swore ourselves a better life

If I had a chance for another try,
I wouldn't change a thing
It's made me all of who I am inside
And if I could thank god
That I am here, and that I am alive
And everyday I wake
I tell myself a little harmless lie
The whole wide world is mine

The summers gone, the years have passed,
My friends have changed, a few did last,
The smallest dreams got pushed aside,
The largest ones that changed my life,
And all I wish for has come to pass
From Rock N Roll, to love and cash
It's all success if it's what you need
Do what you like and do it honestly

If I had a chance for another try,
I wouldn't change a thing
It's made me all of who I am inside
And if I could thank god
That I am here, and that I am alive
And everyday I wake
I tell myself a little harmless lie
The whole wide world is mine

yeah, i cried first time i heard that song...

Guns N' Roses - Estranged has some of my all-time favorite lyrics.

When you're talking to yourself and nobody's home
You can fool yourself
You came in this world alone

So nobody ever told you baby how it was gonna be
So what'll happen to you baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see

Old at heart, but I'm only 28
And I'm much too young to let love break my heart
Young at heart but it's getting much too late
To find ourselves so far apart

I don't know how you're supposed to find me lately
And what more could you ask from me
How could you say that I never needed you
When you took everything from me

Young at heart and it gets so hard to wait
When no one I know can seem to help me now
Old at heart but I mustn't hesitate
If I'm to find my own way out
Still talkin' to myself and nobody's home

So nobody ever told us baby how it was gonna be
So what'll happen to us baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see

When I find out all the reasons
Maybe I'll find another way
Find another day
With all the changing seasons of my life
Maybe I'll get it right next time

And now that you've been broken down
Got your head out of the clouds
You're back down on the ground
And you don't talk so loud
And you don't walk so proud
Anymore, and what for

Well I jumped into the river too many times to make it home
I'm out here on my own, drifting all alone
If it doesn't show, give it time
To read between the lines

'cause I see the storm getting closer
And the waves, they get so high
Seems everything we've ever known's here
Why must it drift away and die

I'll never find anyone to replace you
Guess I'll have to make it through, this time
Oh this time
Without you

I knew the storm was getting closer
And all my friends said I was high
But everything we've ever known's here
I never wanted it to die

System of a down - B.Y.O.B

Think think these lyrics got a good message:

You

WHY THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR?

Barbarisms by Barbaras, With pointed heels.
Victorious, victorieas, kneel.
For brand new spankin deals
Marching forward hypocritic
and hypnotic computers.`
You depend on our protection,
Yet you feed us lies from the table cloth.

Lalalalala...ouu...

Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.

kneeling roses disappearing,
into Moses’ dry mouth,
breaking into Fort Knox,
stealing our intentions,
Hangars sitting dripped in oil,
Crying FREEDOM!

Handed to obsoletion,
Still you feed us lies from the table cloth.

Lalalalala...ouu...

Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.
Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.

Blast off, its Party time,
And we don't live in a facist nation
Blast off, its party time,
And where the fuck are you?

Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?

Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR?

Kneeling roses disappearing,
into Moses’ dry mouth,
breaking into Fort Knox,
stealing our intentions,
Hangars sitting dripped in oil,
Crying FREEDOM!

Handed to obsoletion,
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth.

Lalalalala...ouu...

Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.
Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sun...
Where the fuck are you!
Where the fuck are you!

Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why, do, they always send the poor?
Why, do, they always send the poor?
Why, do, they always send the poor?
They always send the poor
They always send the poor

My favourite lyrics from Power Quest - I Don't Believe In Friends Forever.

You never know who you can trust
You never know who's gonna stab you in the back
Sometimes you just don't know your friends
Sometimes you gotta sleep with one eye open.

It's hard to know who's on your side and who's against
It's hard to recognise the truth behind the lies
Sometimes a moment, sometimes many, many years
You'll find it written in their eyes.

I don't believe in friends forever
I trusted you and you just shot me down
I don't believe in friends for forever
30 pieces of silver - it's over now.

Some people only think of them
Their deeds remind me what I never want to be
They have no reason to exist
All they do in life is count their money

It's hard to know who's on your side and who's against
It's hard to recognise the truth behind the lies

Of the all the PQ songs i think that's my least fav when it comes to lyrics. Think it's a bit to depressive and not really fond of songs inspired from the bible...Still really catchy song though!

And my fav lyrics from PQ is in the song Time To Burn, think it got a great message

I'm usually drawn to fantastical and poetic lyrics even more than heartfelt ones.

Wintersun:
So mysterious is your world,
Concealed beyond the stars
Far away from the earth,
It flows one with time and dark as the night
Million shapes and colours
Are storming inside your mind
Creating endless dimensions
Forming universes without walls

Let go! of the stars, the stars that fell into the sea
Let go! of your thoughts and dreams,
What can you see now

Elvenking:
Face the truth, are you worthy of this honesty-filled celebration?
Another tune bursting forth from the passion that glides in my veins - can you feel it?
A speaking portrait's in front of me, do you acknowledge yourself?
who painted you?

Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows (not metal but a really cool avant-garde darkwave project):
I sensed the wretched spectres of the drowned staring across from some distant shore
And in my sadness I drew closer, to condole and somewhat to implore...

I am like the doubtful kiss of a corpse or maybe the kiss of an ancient stone.
Yes, it's like kissing some marble statue that has neither warmth nor life of its own...

No, no, no...- put an end to the show!
I am going back to the land where the bone-flowers grow
To "the wild, weird clime that lieth, sublime, out of Space - out of Time..."

I like the quote idea to distinguish lyrics.

The last few minutes of Coma by Guns N' Roses have my all-time favorite lyrics. If I had to rank them, these would be #1. There are other bands, too, of course, but I'll have to sift through those later..

You live your life like it's a coma, so won't you tell me why we'd wanna
With all the reasons you give, it's kind of hard to believe
But who am I to tell you that I've seen any reason why you should stay?
Maybe we'd be better off without you anyway

You've got a one way ticket on your last chance ride
Got a one way ticket to your suicide
Got a one way ticket and there's no way out alive

And all this crass communication that has left you in the cold
Isn't much for consolation when you feel so weak and old
But if home is where the heart is, then there are stories to be told
No, you don't need a doctor; no one else can heal your soul

Got your mind in submission, got your life on the line
But nobody pulled the trigger, they just stepped aside
They'll be down by the water while you watch 'em waving goodbye

They'll be calling in the morning, they'll be hanging on the phone
They'll be waiting for an answer, but you know nobody's home
And when the bell stopped ringing, it was nobody's fault but your own

There were always ample warnings, there were always subtle signs
And you would've seen it coming, but we gave you too much time
And when you said that no one's listening, why'd your best friend drop a dime?
Sometimes we get so tired of waiting for a way to spend our time

And it's so easy to be social, it's so easy to be cool
Yea, it's easy to be hungry when you ain't got shit to lose
And I wish that I could help you with what you hope to find
But I'm still out here waiting, watching reruns of my life

When you reach the point of breaking, know it's gonna take some time
To heal the broken memories that another man would need just to survive

There are some lyrics that I've heard on some song but can't remember which one it was...it was this more or less:

On a cold dark night,
We walk together hand in hand, and nobody can see us,
We wonder why we go out at night... When the only thing we can see is ourselves.

What are we doing it for? What are we walking together for?
Are we being watched, or are we watching others?

The song "I don't believe in friends forever", although it has a biblical reference in there, was inspired by a "so called" friend of mine who I had known for over 10 years who for some inexplicable reason suddenly decided to stab me in the back in a pretty major way about 5 years ago....so it's actually based on a true story.

A lot of my all time favourite lyrics were written by Fish.....both while he was in Marillion and through his solo material. Check out the "Clutching at Straws" album for some prime examples.

I thought the biblical reference was kinda cool XD

more lyrics that mean a lot to me

Gotta make like a cat theifs caught in the line
Its gotta sound like a gunshot over and over
Ive gotta voice so lost off back in my head
It takes the heart rate up then down even more
Ive got my friends face down like a kid in the dark
Theyve got the same fear built up more even more
Ive let my eyes bright up like a predator shark
To let my mind close down every hour by hour

Do you feel light shine in the darkest of nights, or does the Pain stack up from the skin to the core
Do you find everytime that you cover your eyes to keep the tears held up, dripping down even more
Let the words come down, every line in sight and put the young flames up and make you cower and cower
If the sun breaks in instead of sparkin the sight, I promise you Ill be here to let the light in

Marillion - Warm Wet Circles

On promenades where drunks propose to lonely arcade mannequins
Where ceremonies pause at the jeweler's shop display
Feigning casual silence in strained romantic interludes
Till they commit themselves to the muted journey home

And the pool player rests on another cue
Last nights hero picking up his dues
A honeymoon gambled on a ricochet
She's staring at the brochures at the holidays

Chalking up a name in your hometown
Standing all your mates to another round
Laughing at the world till the barman wipes away the warm wet circles
The warm wet circles

I saw teenage girls like gaudy moths
A classroom's shabby butterflies
Flirt in the glow of stranded telephone boxes
Planning white lace weddings from smeared hearts and token proclamations
Rolled from stolen lipsticks across the razored webs of glass
Sharing cigarettes with experience with her giggling jealous confidantes
She faithfully traces his name with quick bitten fingernails
Through the tears of condensation that'll cry through the night
As the glancing headlights of the last bus kiss adolescence goodbye
In a warm wet circle

Like a mothers kiss on your first broken heart, a warm wet circle
Like a bullet hole in Central Park, a warm wet circle
And I'll always surrender to the warm wet circles

She nervously undressed in the dancing beams of the Fidra lighthouse
Giving it all away before it's too late
She'll let a lovers tongue move in a warm wet circle
Giving it all away and showing no shame
She'll take a mother's kiss on her first broken heart a warm wet circle
She'll realise that she played her part in a warm wet circle

It was a wedding ring
Destined to be found in a cheap hotel
Lost in a kitchen sink or thrown in a wishing well

Like, betrayed you? In which way/form?

Everybody knows we live in a world
Where they give bad names to beautiful things
Everybody knows we live in a world
Where we don't give beautiful things a second glance
Heaven only knows we live in a world
Where what we call beautiful is just something on sale
People laughing behind their hands
While the fragile and the sensitive are given no chance

And the leaves turn from red to brown
To be trodden down, to be trodden down
And the leaves turn from red to brown
Fall to the ground
Fall to the ground

We don't have to live in a world
Where we give bad names to beautiful things
We should live in a beautiful world
We should give beautiful a second chance

And the leaves fall from red to brown
To be trodden down, to be trodden down
And the leaves turn green to red to brown
Fall to the ground
And get kicked around

You're strong enough to be
Have you the faith to be
You're sane enough to be
Honest enough to stay
Don't have to be the same
Don't have to be this way
C'mon and sign your name
You're wild enough to remain beautiful
Beautiful
Beautiful

And the leaves turn from red to brown
To be trodden down, trodden down
And we fall green to red to brown
Fall to the ground
But we can turn it around

You're strong enough to be
Why don't you stand up and say
Give yourself a break
They'll laugh at you anyway
So why don't you stand up and be
Beautiful
Beautiful

Black, white, red, gold, and brown
We're stuck in this world
Nowhere to go
Turnin' around
What are you so afraid of?
Show us what you're made of
Be yourself and be beautiful
Beautiful

Marillion - Beautiful

Blessed with an eye to see things as they are, will you draw me?
Up there on the wall, looking down to us all, you never saw me...
I found a pen, and I outlined a life.
You've never cried, I think I saw a tear in your eye.

Your eyes tell the tale, I will not ask again.
Now I see what you've lost nothing is quite the same.
By the love of my heart, cut my drawing in half, for I think I'm like you... Should you draw me...

Waiting for my evenfall.

Farewell, my passion, you slowly turn pale.
I will long for you warmth, made me feel safe.
I will not draw again, 'till I know it's my time.
I have lived a long life, should I draw me...

Morning's here, I must have....failed

Someone save me...

Sonata Arctica - Draw Me

Korn - Throw Me Away

Flesh wound, flesh wound
With medication it will fade
Should I assume that someone hears me when I pray
Love full of hate
Don't you love how I break?

(Chorus)
Don't let them throw me away
Ah!
Keep me and I'll be okay
Ah!
Skipping a beat but it plays
Ah!
Don't let them throw me away
Ah!
Don't let them throw me away

Screwed up, used up
Crumble lying on the floor
Fucked up, shut up
All you did back then was score
I'm feeling weak
Missing parts
Incomplete

(Chorus)

Hold me up into the light
Fix the cracks and fix them right
Keep the pieces in the drawer
Keep them there forever more
May come in use for someday
Recycle this shit in someway
And all that I have to say
Don't let them throw me away
