Feedback

hey noumeon, join the 0 votes club. Our club is looking for more members
i didn't vote for myself. I didn't notice anythng wroing with your solo noumie, i thought it was quite good.
I will listen to all of them again and post reviews.
Jeff, i noticed yours was labeled jb. it is a very good improvisation, but too improvised for my taste. Man,you have great chops and improv skills.
Evil pete, i liked your idea too, very melodic yet shreddy if i remember correctly. It was close to get my vote, but i just liked will's better
I know what i did wrong with mine, too much mindless shred, and it was stupid to start wit a grimand trv and kvlt pick tapping, ear scraching thing. Anything else wrong with my solo.

I got one vote, :). At least someone liked mine the best. But remember, 0 votes definatly doesnt mean that its the worst solo. Your solo might have been the second favorite to everyone.

btw, are the solos gone for good now?

Hey guys,
I have to go to dialysis right now, but I'll post a comment on everyone's when I get back.
One note to everyone here: NO ONE HAD A BAD SOLO HERE. I'll give my ops later.:headbang:

Ok,
These are all my opinion_ only_. Constructive criticism is all I wish to provide here.
Noumenon, I liked your solo. The shred licks you put in there were cool, and I liked the ending. I got kind of lost with your direction though. It felt like the following phrases after the opening burst just kind of hung there. The notes were right, I just didn't feel a melody happening in the middle of it, something to draw my ear in, like a singable melody. Something that countered the melodies in the backing track, giving us a little more rhythmic and melodic conterpoint, that kind of thing.
I hope that helps man!
LOTS and Seed Awakener, I'll go on to you guys in a minute.

Ok,
LOTS, I thought you had a pretty good entry as well. A couple things that caught my ear: Though the notes were right for the tapping intro you did,I think maybe it was misplaced. That idea would have been better in the middle of your solo.
You had some cool melodies started in there, but they got kind of lost, I thnk maybe because you didn't let your phrases "breathe" enough. It's kind of like a run on sentence that keeps going and going and doesn't stop you know it just keeps going and going doesn't stop for breath once in a while. I think maybe a key thing here is development of your ideas, and recording them, stop, listen back, and ask yourself if you're hearing phrases. Phrases that you could hum or even sing, even shred type stuff( we all have done that vocally, don't anyone in here tell me they haven't!)
Hope that helps man!
On to SeedAwakener...

OK,
SeedAwakener,
I liked your solo as well. The one thing I thought when I first heard the whole thing, was that maybe the intro would have been better at the end. I liked your bluesy approach towards the middle/end of the solo, that was nice man. The only other thing could mention is that phrase thing I'm bringing up with LOTS and Noumenon. Let your phrases breathe a little more, and I think that might come across a little more relaxed.
Allright, I hope that helps man.

In fact, for everyone who wanted some feedback, I hope I have helped give a little perspective here into what I feel would help you guys. Get ready for the next contest, I got the track today from Evil Pete. He's a little busy this week, and onnly had a minute to e-mail me the track, but he's "chuffed", in his own words!
It's going up tomorrow everybody! And it sounds like a fun one to solo over!

Thanks to everyone for listening - that's the best thing we can do for each other here, so I want to hear more posting because that's never hurt anyone.

LOTS, I do pretty much improvise everything. First, I'm a little jazz-headed fucker, so that's pretty much the biggest part of where my playing is coming from; second, my favorite soloists tend to be people like Allan Holdsworth who can just rip on a moment's notice and have a unique and defining sound within the first few notes; third, I like my chops! Seriously though, I wish I hadn't dropped my pick, and I'm sure doing a second- or third-over would have cleaned it up, but my personality type ends up killing everything I do and the 'raw' original stuff beats anything I could ever work out. I'd love to hear an all-improv session on something nice and simple like Coltrane's Giant Steps, maybe if I get around to winning one of these things I'll work out a backing track that gives nobody any choice but to just shred off and hope for the best.

thx for the review man, I have sure been thinking of that phrasing thing lately as my guitarteacher took it up some weeks ago. Its just that its hard to know exactly what notes to actually hit even if you know the rules.

and this advices are godd for everybody, not just the ones that recorded their solos...
btw, when is the next backing track will be up?

Right on guys, happy to offer my opinions, and hope they help you guys out!
