And here are my impressions: first, they all seem like absolute A+ guys, especially Per, Mike, and Martin; all very friendly and modest (to varying degrees hehe), and Mike has such a great self-deprecating sense of humor. Second, holy shit can Axenrot play, jesus. And third, HOLY MOTHERFUCKING SHIT can Fredrik play, JESUS - the guy has a godly vibrato and SO much expressiveness, but can also shred his fucking spaceballs off; his solos on the album are seriously some of the best I've EVER heard, and watching him play them on the DVD gives me a newfound respect and appreciation for them. It goes on a bit long with everyone talking about their impressions of everyone else, but overall well worth checking out! (it only came with the deluxe edition of the CD, naturally)

Yeah, Fredrik has been around for a while, and he's been shredding like no one else, even back in the mid 90's when i first met him. Awesome guitarist indeed.

I don't think I'll ever get over how tight axe is. :notworthy
But tbh honest when it comes to the softer feel type drums I think Lopez is better, especially on the Lamentations DVD :hypno:.

They are gods in my opinion :) It´s not on the watershed, but "harvest" is the most beautiful written song in the metal scene imo. I love it.

As I had listen first time to the watershed 5.1 mix LOUDLY, I was full of admiration and respect. It blows me away and I nearly began to cry, so damn fuckin´great was this for me!!

Yeah Marcus, it's a great bonus disc! Whenever I want some inspiration, I can watch an interview or performance with those dudes. They are just living the dream. Great players, cool dudes. When Mendez left, I was a very minimally skeptical about where the band would go, but I must say they bounced back stronger than ever!

Axe is a funny dude in interviews too.

Oh yeah, I need to listen to the 5.1 mix of "Watershed." I'm gonna crack open a bottle of wine and just absorb it all, hahaha.

OK, I'm going to give them one more shot. I've heard a few songs here and there, clips on the net, and used to have copies of 2 early albums.

what's ONE album of theirs that should win over a crossover punk/thrash metalhead? I'll give it a go.

Well they're not reallt thrashy/punk in the slightest but their most straight ahead album would probably be deliverace but it's not their best, Blackwater park and Ghost REveries are my tops.
Yeah its a cool DVD, makes for an interesting watch. Weird that no one mentions that micheal played in blood bath with Axe though, they make out like he barely knows him at all

Blackwater Park would probably be the easiest to get into

Yeah, BWP was my first, and while I was already way in to cerebral progressive metal, I'd still say it'd be the best to start with - that or Deliverance.

I've been disappointed a little in the 5.1 mixes of Opeth CDs.

They are certainly a lot more open (spatially) but there's nothing ground breaking in the 5.1 mixes.

I don't know what I was expecting, but it didn't live up to it unfortunately!

[I was listening on a properly calibrated Blue Sky 5.1 system, for those interested]

But.. but.. what about Per Wiberg's keyboard work??? :u-huh::lol:

Damn, that Hammond solo in Burden is .. I don't know what exactly, but it's awesome! (And the tone.. ..)

(Hey, whaddaya want? I'm a keyboardist, so sue me!)

I'm beginning to realize that I'm the only one who loves their older stuff but thinks that the "new" opeth is meh

Strangely I think the opposite

I don't really like orchids and morningrise, I feel like there is no real structures, just riffs after riffs.

I didn't really like the last two albums though. But all the albums in the middle (after morningrise and before ghost reveries) are amazing.
