FINALLY I made the switch - Mac > PC

I've only ever gone as far as SP1 but I've found it perfectly useable. If anything, wasn't it SP2 that introduced a ton of bugs into XP?

Not as far as I noticed...

I don't know. I really don't understand what people ramble about when they say 'blah blah, spyware, viruses, slow, slow'. I've never had any major issues with Windows machines. I really haven't.. in particular for audio recording. I run an antiquated Athlon 1700+ xp and I manage to do simple metal mixes fine on it. The thing is a piece of crap that my old man got ripped off on and it isn't purpose-built for anything, yet it still manages to do everything fine.

If you manage it right with the right tools, spyware and viruses are not an issue. It's only dodgy porn sites and excepting messages from strangers on msn that get you in the donkey poo. :loco:

A friend of mine bought himself a G4 laptop because he'd heard how fantastic Macs were at graphic design work. The first problem he encountered was that he actually had to pay for Photoshop. The second problem he encountered was that his HD died within a month. His most recent course of action? Went back to his PC, upgraded it to a modern CPU, 2gb of DDR400 RAM, got a SATA II HD and all his graphic design is running fine. The wonderful thing about this upgrade was that it didn't even cost him over a grand.

:D

Sounds like another never ending Mac vs PC debate...
My dick is bigger than yours anyway. That's a FACT.

Come on guys, I spent several minutes of my life trying to create some comical relief for y'all, and no one even cares to comment on my little drawing? Buhuhu!

I guess I was a fool for thinking I could actually lighten up a mac vs pc thread huh?

p.s. I'm not really as dorky as this post makes me look, it's all good ;)

Huh? What do you mean?

Unix is just a programming language... Microsoft could make Windows look exactly like OS X and not use Unix at all...

If anything the new Windows is looking more and more like OS X from the screenshots I've looked at... Lots of new features stolen from OS X (some developers have even admitted off the record they're delaying production a little to see what else the Apple crew has in store with 10.4.4+ to add to Vista) even the new Internet Explorer is more simple and streamlined looking akin to Safari.

OHHHH and OS X Does look Exactly like Suse With KDE .... lol ... Come on ... the BOTH look like Unix just like i said .... lol

Totally wrong. In fact that statement couldn't be more wrong.

UNIX is an operating system, like Windows is an operating system. MacOS X is a UNIX operating system (based on FreeBSD) with a decent GUI system.

It's buggy as it's not a full version, and you can't run everything since not all software has been ported for use with x86 processors (just PPC). When 10.4.4 comes out and everyone releases Intel versions it's going to be a lot better.

Personally I can't imagine completely switching over to Mac, I'd have to have both. They both have the strengths and weaknesses.

One really exciting thing about the new Windows Vista though that's actually innovative for a change...
Every application will have individual volume control!

But can you run plug-ins on each app's fader insert? :tickled:

I fail to see the usefulness or innovation here. We have the Vista beta here at work and it's shaping up to be the most hilarious Windows release yet. Why not just have the ability to route the output of any app's sound to your DAW? You can do this on the Mac with the free Soundflower from Cycling 74.

Thanks for the tip! I knew such an app existed, forgot were to look. Now I can patch iTunes into Logic were the Altiverb will do the active filtering of my monitors. Altiverb will run filterimpulses of the Algorithmix RedEQ btw. ;)

That's pretty cool. I can loop the output on the various channels of my Fireface to send application output to my multitracker.

I really shouldn't post high at 3am hahaha.

You're right, it is just on OS... Its looks have nothing to do with it being Unix is what I meant. The GUI could be anything for either OS.

You really can't see any usefulness?

You've never wanted to mute specific applications while you had other ones you wished to hear (or turn certain ones down like if you have a CD Playing)? I've wanted something like this for years... Apple doesn't have it, I don't know of any Linux distros that do either...

You don't even need that program on a Mac... Or at least I never had to.
I just selected the interface in the Audio Preferences as my soundcard... I've never really worked with audio really on a PC so I don't know about how it works with that...
