finished zelda 2 last night

I never beat Zelda II! That fucking angel fucking thing always kicked my ass because I'd be halfway dead from battling through the last castle. Whoa, flashback to 1989.

I just finished the opera house bit in Final Fantasy VI last night, for about the 4809140th time.

Yeah, Zelda II is a good game, but it's a HUGE step down from Zelda I. I was thinking about that as I played. One of the major things is how in Zelda I, there are tons of little hidden things you might find or might never find (bushes to burn for rupees, seventeen heart containers scattered about, holes to bomb, gambling pits, the whistle and raft and such actually doing multiple things). Whereas in Zelda II, you find the raft solely so you can use it at one particular point and advance the game. You find the whistle solely so you can use it at another particular point (well, two) and advance the game. There are only ummm four (I think) heart containers to find and you need every one to win. very few secrets. etc.

I probably had to do the Road to the Great Palace/Great Palace five or six times before I had it down. Then, on the last run, I ended up beating the game with two extra lives to spare. In fact, I beat the thunderbird/butterfly guy with no magic and a single life box left, expected to die on the shadow and be able to fight him with full life/magic, and then beat the shadow without taking a hit (no idea how I pulled that off).

I don't think Metroid is especially hard at all...it does require a time investment, and is really frustrating, especially when you have to slowly bomb yourself out of a huge pit or something. I am going to use a map this time just because I'm going to be playing it in fits and starts and I don't want to have to re-learn the corridors of Zebes every time I start it up.

I liked Super Metroid better because it didn't have those incredibly frustrating moments like the original had. I mean yeah that was part of the challenge and all, but I always prefer games that are too easy instead of too hard.

yeah, Super Metroid was great (I dunno about better, but I have a soft spot for classics). another good thing about Super Metroid is that you could find recharger stations, so when you started the game again with 30 health points or whatever you didn't have to kill Nippers and Skrees for an hour just to fill your tanks.

Super Metroid is one of my favorite games ever. I really need to get and emulator to play it on my computer, as my super nintendo doesnt want to read cartridges anymore. It's sad really.

hey speaking of chrono trigger, has anyone heard anything about chrono crisis or w/e the third in the series is supposed to be called? are they even still doing it?

I never played Chrono Cross but Chrono Trigger kicked all kinds of ass. I wish that New Game + feature was included with EVERY RPG, I'd actually play through more of them a second time.

Basically, xfer, if you beat CT, you can start a new game with this "new game +" option that saves your characters from your OLD save file and loads them into the "new game" so you can blow through the whole thing and get new endings or new items or whatever. It's useful in a game like CT that has like 6000 different endings.
