FINLAND!!!

Finland is pretty fucking awesome. Has anybody read about the Winter War of 1939, when they were invaded by the USSR (referenced in the Impaled Nazarene song)? Possibly the most insane campaign in modern warfare... Stalin was worried the Germans would occupy Finland and use it as a base to launch an invasion. So he basically wanted the Finns to give up their country and their freedom -- and instead they chose to fight.

So the Soviets sent in a million men, 3000 tanks and 4000 planes against the Finns, who had 250,000 troops, 30 tanks and 100 aircraft. They fought through winter 1939, one of the coldest in history (often below -40 degrees), the Finns using snow and ice to their advantage, wearing white winter camoflauge gear and displacing troops on skis, often taking on armies ten times their size. Despite the huge military advantage, the Soviets got WHOOPED, partly because they just couldn't handle the brutal cold, but largely because the Finns were fighting for their freedom and battled with extreme, unprecedented fury.

FUCKING AWESOME.

N-ICE! Thanks for the history lesson!

The guy sounds quite funny to me as well. :D He's probably from Pohjanmaa, like the lousy extreme dudesons.

My grandfather fought in the winter war, and died shortly after. My father still has his old Pystykorva riffle, which I sometimes use to practice my shooting. I will be joining the army in few years. :) Beware russians!

Ive been to finland and the only thing that tops their ability to swear amazingly. Is their ability to drink everyone under the table. 13 year old girls can drink manly men here under the table.

I was in Finland in may, right at the time when Lordi won the Eurovision. I took part in a huge artillery exercise at a training area between Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi (north of the arctic circle). Didn´t see much of the country, coz we drove in from Sweden...
What I did experience were reindeer by the 100´s (dumb as doorknobs!), a few moose, and heavy drinking finnish officers.:) Oh, and the awesome unisex saunas!!!:heh:

Infernium >>> Do you know the name of that exercise area? Can´t remember it...

Lapin Kulta rocks! Kipis!

I'm not sure. There's a Jäger brigade in Sodankylä, which is north of Rovaniemi. That's probably the northernmost military unit. There are training grounds pretty much everywhere, there's a alot of empty land to blow up in Finland.

I prefer Karjala to Lapin Kulta, though the swedish version Norrlands Guld is good. :)

I'd love to go there. Actually my dream is to take a mega trip, and visit both Sweden and Norway, over the course of several weeks, but Finland would be cool too. Awesome stuff.
