I was hearing the last album of stratovarius and I thought to myself, this sounds like a fiinnvox mix once again.
This guys for this style of music are putting almost the same mix for about 15 years! That´s is a bit ridiculous.

Nightwish - Oceanborn (1998)
Sonata Arctica - Silence (2001)
Masterplan - Enlighten Me (2002)
Children Of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll (2003)
Stratovarius - Nemesis (2013)

Ok the mixes are good, they work for the style but for god´s sake, 15 years doing the same mix over and over?

I don't listen to any of these bands, just not my cup of tea, liked COB back in the
day but yeah...don't like any of the guitar sounds and especially the guitar sound
on the Strato track is really annoying imho.
But in the end, I would still be glad to make a mix sound that good ;)

We can thank Mikko Karmila for it, since he mixed all but the Strato on your list. He laid the foundations for what's become "the finnish metal sound".

I understand what you say but there are little changes between the mixes in all of those years. Especially that snare. They could change more, but ok if it´s what the bands wanted, we cant argue too much about that. But seems that I am listening the same mix with different bands over and over.

Yeah, finnvox has A SOUND that to be fair, I love that i can recognize when I chuck some of my fave albums :D

Slight correction: Finnvox is a large-ish complex and M. Karmila rents C-Studio from there. So Finnvox as such doesn't have a sound (except the B-Studio room..), Karmila has a sound and it's a very successful sound at that.

I'm not sure if I should, but... have a listen to this sample here. ;)

I like that people around the world like Finnish metal, since that's where I'm from but... I've always hated those bands especially Nightwish and Sonata Arctica. Music for kids and geeks with zero taste and tacky melodies and sounds. But we're all allowed to have our own music taste. :D That being said, I feel like Stratovarius made that sound standard and every band automatically made to sound the same. That being said, some of my own material has been mixed at Finnvox and definitely doesn't sound like that. :D

Ah cheers, my bad! In that case I love KARMILA'S sound \m/

I totally agree that Karmila is very one dimensional, when it comes to his mixes over the years. Still as said, one of the key guys creating finnish metal sound.

These are couple of the good ones IMO -->
