Firewind: Apollo out... Kelly Carpenter in

Really sad to hear this. The Firewind discs with Apollo are their best ones IMO (along with Forged in Fire with Chity) and Apollo had become one of my fave singers.
I don't know Kelly Carpenter a lot. Hope he'll fit well. However, after watching the PP videos of Firewind with Henning Basse (filling in for Apollo back then), I'd have loved to have Basse as a replacement.

Kelly is filling in the for the tour. He does not have the permanent replacement gig at the moment. Considering the tour is next month, I'd say that Firewind *had* to go with an American vocalist because of the visa status. Kelly was a shrewd choice given the circumstances.

Good luck to both of them.

I never got to see Firewind with Apollo, but heard on a few occasions that his vocal health was something that constantly affected Firewind as well. Is that true, or do you think he just couldn't commit to the schedule?

My guess is that he could not commit to that much touring because the one time I saw him live, he was excellent, and it's the same on the 2008 DVD.

But maybe he also had problems after several shows in a row?

Sad to hear this, but Kelly is an incredible singer. Buy Outworld's self-titled CD or Darkology's 'Altered Reflections' and you will be an instant fan.

Dude sounded great the couple of times I saw them, and was a big part of FW's appeal for me. It will be fun to hear the new temporary lineup next month though.

This thing only lets me use up to Size 7 font size. GRRRRR I NEED IT TO GO TO 11

Henning Basse.... best power metal vocalist I've ever heard. Metalium's first disc is EXACTLY what I expect from this genre.

Oh, and his work in MAYAN is sooooo damn good.... do I sound like a fanboy right now???

You Henning fanboys know he is fronting Uli Jon Roth's band right?

Oh, and by the use of the word fanboys, I meant no insult.
I used to be a big Metalium fan myself.

As a fan of Firewind since the early beginning (The Leviathan Records days) I think I am probably the only one excited about this lol. Apollo was good but I preferred the likes of Stephan Frederick and Chity Somapala.

Pretty sure Kelly will just be the N. American Tour vocalist but am really excited to see who they get as a permanent replacement.

Oh no this is bad news. Apollo was always great live when I saw them. Although he does strain a bit when it comes to higher notes as I recall. Get Stephen Frederick back!!

I liked Fredrick back in the day, but I'm not sure if he would be able to sing the Chity or Apollo stuff, as they're better vocalists IMO.

As always - thank you to the ProgPower community to keeping me up to speed on news.

I plan to see FW and Turisas here in Atlanta, so the Vocalist update is much appreciated... plus now I get some more bands to listen to to get an idea as to Kelly's range (which I understand is impressive).

I'm kind of (glad) Apollo left. A lot of times a vocalist change yields a stylistic change, and while I loved Allegiance and The Premonition (and their 3 albums previous to those) they lost me with Days of Defiance and Few Against Many. I'm excited to see what happens to them on their next album, hopefully it's a return to form and doing a 180 away from their current classic rock knockoff direction.
