Firewire port for laptop.

I've tried searching and couldn't find anything that relates to laptops without firewire.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 with Win 7 64-bit on it, and I plan on getting a Profire 2626 when I have enough money. Would this work with my laptop? It says it doesn't have drivers for Win 7.

try emailing the manufacturer to see if they have one available, or if they've updated the drivers for this card to work with Windows 7

surely there'd be a driver by now at least

See if you can find this one someplace - it has a TI chipset and has Win 7 x64 drivers available (Checked out the support section and they do indeed have the drivers.)

You may know this, but it's worth mentioning just in case you don't - you will require an external power source for all devices as bus power is not provided over laptop cards.

That looks exactly like the Syba card I use with my HP DV9235NR laptop.

I can't see the brand name on the card or the listing, but it looks exactly the same, and has the same TI Chipset as the one I use has. It works perfectly.

Although I found mine 10 bucks cheaper than the price listed on your link.

I've recommended this card to a few people I know who run Profires, and all have had 0 problems with the card. The chipset is the key, so I hesitate to say spending more will get you anything better.

I put Win7 64bit on my laptop, and there is no need for you to worry about a driver for this card anyway. Just put it in the slot and it will work.

You will need to have the wall wart for your 2626 with you - in other words, unlike desktop fire wire ports, most laptop cards do not provide bus power and since I'm not familiar with the 2626 it may not run off of bus power anyway. Just know that other devices that you might want to attach like hard drives will require external power as well unlike connecting it to a desktop when power may be supplied through the firewire port.

If you're talking about the laptop giving power to the Profire then that's not a problem because it has a 12V DC input.

But, thanks for addressing that other things might require external power. I would've never know! Haha.

Yes, and what I linked is the exact same card you linked in your original post. The Manu. site says it supports Windows 7 and it does.

I bought the card when I was running Vista 32 bit. I installed Win7, slid the card in and booted up my machine and it was fine. Didn't have to worry about finding drivers or anything, it was all setup upon booting up.

I would say the site you linked with the card is just simply not up to date in it's product description. Besides that, buying it from outletpc.com will save you 10 bucks.

Seriously, it's a solid enough card, cheap, and the 3 or 4 people I directly know using it all have had no problems.
