First drop G# Deathcore/Hardcore Mix (After the Burial/Bury Your Dead...? maybe?)

I've been working on my EP, which sounds great now, and all the songs are 6-string drop B metalcore songs... except this one. Its done on a 7-string and nearly everything about my chain was different. I originally wrote it for my grindcore side project but it came out too "emotional" so i'm using it here. This is my first tentative final mix of all the elements put together. My ears are tired as all hell from tracking and mixing this "special" song all day long... your turn now. Tell me what you think, what you hear could be better. I'm gonna get some rest and see what you guys have for me in the morning. Thanks guys!

Sounds really good dude. You could turn up the guitars a bit but it's just personnal taste. Vocals maybe a bit too loud but other than that sounds awesome, nice songwriting btw.

Thanks man! the guitars could be louder but the tone is pretty bland... my 1960's lead cab for some reason couldn't handle the resonance properly for this tuning. yea the vocals do kind of stick out like a hot knife. In my room its hards to gauge levels sometimes so I tend to over compensate occassionally.

I was actually literally doing the robot when I was tracking vocals... to get more of that robotic feel. I tried multiple vocal styles and takes and concluded that the robot was the best way to go for this song. Not sure what you mean by undergained tho, I hope ur not referring to guitars cuz that's already been said and done... besides if I was to push my pre gain on my head a nanometer above where it was at the guitars would start to sound like a scrambled porn channel.

Thanks Brosickle! Here's an unpdated mix. Sounds pretty similiar cept I bumped the guitars, brought down the vocals, brought up the gang part, and brought the white noise in sooner at the end. It's pretty much finished then I'd say...??

Sounds pretty good. IMO, the snare could be a bit larger in the mix.

When listening, I feel like the snare should really be punching me in the face. It might suit the style of music better.

For sure. That's the biggest critique I've had on my mixes so far, the flat poppy snare. It's to the point where I need to sample a new one due to popular demand. My original snare sux, I don't think any amount of eq/comp can fix it

That guitar tone isn't near aggressive enough. Have you tried adding some mids to open up the tone a bit?

much agreed. The guitar tone is very flat and aurally unexciting. I already mentioned earlier how my cab couldn't handle the resonance so I had to notch the pre and post gain down on my head a good amount otherwise it would have sounded like I accidently mic'd my dishwasher instead. There wasn't much I could do, even my ts9 w/ tone maxed couldn't bring the Djent out. I could have tried adjusting my pre eq on the head better during tracking but having to retrack now is far beyond practical. I also need a bigger/better cab to really bring these kinds of songs to their full potential. It's my first time recording any seriously de-tuned stuff.

hmm, vocals feel very restricted (the mix, not the vocals themselves). seem scooped or something, try opening them up a bit and making them more natural sounding. i would moan about your snare, but i can see you know about it already not sure what cymbal it is, but i think its the hihat, but it needs less high end and a bit more mid i reckon. and just for the sake of a really nice balance, i would say turn up the guitars a couple of dB and lower the kick a couple...

This just in, I fixed the snare problem.... Why is it that no one suggested limiting to bring the body out... anyways, I think it sound much better. Much more body, and it still has the crack I want. I'll post a new link in a bit when It's 100% said and done

Thank you, ATB is a great band and were a bit of a writing influence for this song. My guitar playing had to be TIGHT for me to be able to get those edits right.

For some reason there is this distinct hi mid frequency that is noticeable in one of my vocal styles, somewhere around 1-1.5K, that really stands out but I did no eq boosting at all on any of these vocals, just ripping. LP at 12k sucked some 250 out and Dessed. I'm afraid to suck out 1k for the fact that the vocals may then seem a bit 'lifeless' so to speak. I sent the tracks out for mastering already however they came back yesterday and sounded like complete garbage! I have some time today to do some make some more quick adjustments in my mix real and then light a fire under the mastering engineer's ass and tell him to do it all over again, but with my new mixes
