First Mix Ever!

for a first mix, it isnt all that bad. whats going on with the drums? only had 1 mic?

hey! ya know what man?

you actually tracked drums with microphones and mixed it for the first time. i'm not going to blow sunshine up your ass and tell you it sounds great but for the sake of you making an effort of tracking real drums (if maybe for the first time)... way to go! :)

there are definitely a lot of problems with the drums. if you want more critical advice i would recommend you provide some simple information:

-what daw (digital audio workstation) are you using?
-how much space are you working with in terms of tracking drums?
-what kind of plugins/out board gear do you work with or have access to?
-what mics do you have access to and what were these drums recorded with?
-are you using a multi channel audio interface or 2 channel stereo out from a mixer?

it would also help if you could elaborate a little bit on what your current disciplines are in the world of digital audio? for instance, what principals are you aware of? - signal flow, gain staging, comb filtering, equalization, dynamics processing etc etc?

with this information it may be much easier to understand your limitations in an effort to compensate for any recording issues in the future.

like i said, good job for a first timer! ;)

hey man, pretty good for your first mix! all I can say is, read, read, read! Look at threads on the forum and read up on basic techniques. Youtube also =)

Thanks dude and ya i know it's in no way perfect!

I'm recording into Logic Pro 8 on my MacBook.
The space is a spare bedroom :p
As far as plugins, pretty much just whatever Logic Pro offers. Basic EQ, compression, etc..
For mics, I have a cheap NADY 7 piece drum kit. Mic'ed snare, 3 toms, kick, and one overhead(didnt use the 7th)
I'm recording straight into my Presonus FP10.

I have no idea about anything you mentioned hahaha I kinda did the noob thing and just tried to dive right in, but I have started googling and looking at tutorials about basic micing and post processing.

I just found a SM57 laying around so I'm gonna use that to mic the snare and put two condensors for overheads. And btw the drums are crappy drums lol the china is broken and drums are untuned, picking up a tuning key ASAP!

thanks for the advice duders!
