Sup yo,

here is a clip from the mixing stage. Uhmm... I'm sitting in a basement with computer speakers and my only "real" chance of mixing is with my BeyerDynamic DT990 which are decent but it's been a while since I was mixing.

Soooo, listen on your monitors guys and let me know what you think of this first draft!

Thanks :)

Hahaha, I just listened in my Sennheiser HD 280 PRO phones and lol, sooooooo much bass on the kick and subs. Yeah, I was suspecting this would happen because I have had really bad control on the lows with this "monitor" setup :D

I'll fix this tomorrow, but how's everything else? Though I guess the perception of the rest of the mix will change once I lower the bass on the kick.

Hmm. I dunno dude... to me it sounds a bit empty. I'd bring the kick drum down slightly, and reduce the bass, and bring the guitars up a bit.

I'll look into that! Myaah, maybe your perception of emptiness comes from the mix not being filled up properly. Raising the guitars could remedy that. I did forget to mention that the synths are not mixed yet. It's just a stem sitting in the back of the mix as of now. I believe they will help out filling the emptiness.

Like they said, I love bassy kicks with lows of subs, but this is too much for this mix! I'd bring the kick lows a down (the ones at 60hz and below) and raise the guitars like 2-3dBs like jackbraglia said. I'm loving the music though!! I hope this is finished soon, been waiting for too long, Erkan!

FUUUUUUUUUUUUU I have no control over the lows, FML :( Haha.

Here is a new version with lower bass on the kick (I think!?) and lower vocals and raised guitars (with a slight EQ adjustment in the 150-300 hz area (tried to remove a little bit of boxiness, just -2db)).

I'm in an extreme rush now, gotta go but I -think- the vocals are a bit too low and the guitars just... I dunno, weird. The bass guitar might also be too high now (did some changes to that too).

Shit, give me some feedback guys, this it out of control haha :D

Cool mix, cool tune! All has been said plus a little more love for the cymbals. They sound a little flat.

Oops, I was talking about the first mix. Should have refreshed the page after having been away for hours.
Mix is cool. A taste thing: I wouldn't put the vox behind the kick which is most up front of all sounds.

Listening on headphones right now :

The vocals are too low now in my opinion, could be a tad higher (like 1-2 db'ish)
Other thing that's really bothering me is that the guitars are really treble heavy, on which frequency is your LP filter? That would help a bit and otherwise a slight multiband compression around the 4-8 khz region (i think). That way you'll leave more room for the vocals too sit better in the mix, because in my ears it sounds like the high frequencies of the guitars and the vocals are struggeling for some room together in the mix. I also think there are a bit too much high's on the OH's and that the bassguitar is a tad too high in the mix.

Hope this helps dude, it's gonna be rad :)

WOW

Now just raise those vocals 1dB or 2. Or automate them!
Also I'd say the attack in the kick is very similar to that of the snare. I mean frequency wise, it's like they hit a very close EQ region, making the whole drumset sound a bit cheap. Think about it ;)

Everything else is pure sex. Music out of the box gotta sound out of the box. Don't try to make it more generic, as like this it has it's own character.

Cheers!

hm man I dunno...maybe I got used to the rougher versions of your video, but honestly I thought those sounded better then this mix you have here...the teaser for example was really nice, apart from boxy toms.

On what I hear now (test3) vocals are really too low (as other said). bass and guitars dont really blend too well imo, what I liked about the snare is pretty much gone (sounds a lot smaller now) and the guitars have something reaaaaally heavy in the high mids/treble region going on that is wearing my ears out pretty quickly :/

Why not mix with your usual setup that you know, if I can ask?

I dunno, maybe it's youtube compression that makes it sound nice haha. I haven't changed the snare in such a way that it would remove what you liked about the snare. Maybe I will try a totally mainstream amp sim instead of mine - it seems to punish ears quite heavily. Ah fuck it, we'll see what happens next time I open the project (Wednesday)

haha nah, I doubt that it's the youtube compression...strange about the snare, but maybe it's because I got used to the volume of the elements in the youtube clips, with drums more upfront and guitars in the back.
I always liked the guitarsound btw, I just think it needs a little tayloring with the eq

Awesome production!
Really good sounding headphone-mix.

As already mentionend, guitars are a bit too loud compared to vocals.
Great vocals and great guitar-sound, so it is difficult too find the right balance.
If you using a guitar bus, a M/S-EQ could be worth a try. Find out the rivaling frequencies of vocals and guitars and cut them in the MID-Band of the M/S-EQ. By using this, there may will be more space for vocals in the center.

The whole mix needs some balls in the low end, but not much. Try boosting the kick a little.
Another possibillty could be in cutting mids around 3kHz with a low Q, ´cause the mix tends to be a little harsh.

I am very curious for the release of your production.

+1 to Mago actually, I was thinking the same thing. Not that this doesn't sound good, it's actually really really awesome, but the youtube clips had a slightly different vibe or something. I think everything needs a bit more separation/clarity and you're golden.

CANNOT FUCKING WAIT FOR THE REST.

I think the reason for the snare sounding different now than in YouTube clips might be the chain I've got on the master track. After applying back to back GClip (2 Gclip in a row), the attack just disappears. It's not fat anymore, it's just flat.

I'm mixing kind of hot right now but I'm thinking of redoing the whole mix tomorrow and mixing with lots of headroom so I can boost it all up in the master track instead. Should be interesting to see the result of that.
