Hey all, this is my first post here, so I'll try to make it worthwhile.

Decided to try some cab impulses on my 3 Channel Dual Recto today. This is the result

And here is the low down-

PRS CU22 with a JB/Jazz combo tuned to Drop B straight into the Mesa.

Mesa has JJ E34L's and a mix of Tung Sol and Penta pre's (of course the E34L's don't matter in this case)

Took the line out from the head (yes it was plugged into a load) straight into the computer and applied the cab impulses. They were double-tracked on each side with a 92% and 80% pan left and right.

The right side is channel 2 in vintage, left is channel 3 in modern. Cleans were done with the clean channel (durr). All effects were plug-ins in Sonar 7. Post EQ and the like.

Bass was some old Ibanez hunk that doesn't sound half bad. It was modeled with the SVT patches in Guitar Rig 3.

Still trying to get used to SD2.0, and I'm tweaking the shit out of the drums. Not even close to happy with them, but they will do for now. Cymbals seem to be a bitch to balance properly. On the upside, it's easier to get a nice solid kick and snare sound with the internal EQ's.

Settings on Channel 3:
Pres - 10:00, Mid - 1:00, Treble - 1:30, Bass - 10:00, Gain - 11:30
The solo was done on this channel, slightly boosted with a Boss OS-2 adding some more grit.

Channel 2:
Pres - 3:00, Mid - 2:30, Treble - 2:30, Bass - 10:00, Gain - 2:00

Oh...and excuse the gratuitous 808 drops (which I'm still dialing in)

At any rate, some more tweaking in a REAL studio, and some mixing with real cabs, and I'll probably have some pretty raw, tight tones. I'd also like to try impulses on a line-out signal from a speaker load so I can get some of the power amp tone. I'll be trying both of those methods in the coming week.

Snare sounds panned? WTF, it's right up the middle. I think I'm gonna bring the cymbals down a bit, and bring the kick up just a pinch.

Actually the snare sounds like it's coming prominently from the left, and I'd say that's because you have too much room in the drum sound. There is no individual definition, as if the dry tracks have been muted.

Guitar tone sounds quite brutal. Nice job on that. Needs some mud-clearing EQ, but aside from that, the character of the tone is just fine.

Ok, here we go. Took some of the room off the drums, brought down the cymbals, brought up the kick a touch.

Any tips on where to start for clearing out some of the mud?

Version 2

Try hi-passing the guitars at about 50-60 hz. I usually end up doing a healthy cut of about 250hz as well with a narrow Q.

On that new one, the snare is still coming a little from the left. Raise the snare track up a little, and that might hide it. Kick could still come up a little more.
