first roughmix of new Subcutane song

Really loving the song (and vocals )!

Production wise, the snare is really loud and sticks out too much to me, like it needs more verb.

The hats are way too washy, underwater sounding almost. I think the OH's as a whole are a bit too bright. Also, if you can, I'd pan that crash on the left in a little bit.

This kick sounds great, and the guitars sound good when everything comes in, but the chords sound a touch out of tune.

Liking the vox?
I hate the way he sang in the studio (don't tell him ;) )...he had a cold and was pushing way to hard, sounds too thin and nasally to me.
you're right about the hats, unfortunately that's not a mixing issue but the Hihat itself, can't fix that now...I even thought about replacing it with a more defined hihat.....somehow I couldn't make that sound good, so I decided that I would have to live with this shitty underwater hats....:(
I like prominent snaredrums though

thanks for your comments, I thought you would be the first one to say something:lol: !
I don't really hear that the guitars are out of tune that much..do you mean to the keys in the chorus-parts? or all the gits

(updated...same link)

Thanks.
But I think the guitars might be missing some low-end (I think due to the fucking iso-booth I recorded in)....boosting with an EQ during mix doesn't work of course...
what do you think, too thin? re-Amp?

Hi, I like the song and the mix but I think it could have a bit more lows in it, either in the kick or in the bass guitar(which could be a bit lounder, IMO)
I actually find the guitar tone pretty cool, mainly because of the ..err..tube sound it has. I think you could add more absorbtion material (maybe not to thick tough) in your iso booth to deal with phase cancellation and to cut some mids and highs, thus changing the balance of the sound...don't know if I'm making any sense, just try it out :)

Sounds so much fuller now in the low-end and nice and tight in the mutes. Might sound nice with a Krank reamp. :p The Krank tracks sound a bit fizzier than this version, hope you like them.:kickass:

yeah, forgot to mention, there will be an additional krank-version uploaded tomorrow, so you can compare pure 5150/ pure krank on the same song (this one ;) )

guitarhack's uploading some krank-files atm.

Listening to the Krank version now. Came out nice. Good mixing job by LSD. He will post the link shortly. Check it out when he does. Really liking this song. The riffs have been stuck in my head all day. 2mins 23 sec with Left panned guitars before the Right kick back in is a nice spot to compare both the 5150 version and Krank version (since there are no other instruments played there).

....in the San-it-tare-re-ya-hum.

hehe, anybody else said "turn'em uuuup" ;)

they're already compressed to fuckery (like 5/50 atk/rel 10dB reduction)

maybe it's just because I didn't quite care for his style.. :)

what are you using to compress them?

try setting your release a little longer. seems the compressor isnt holding onto those peaks long enough, for my taste anyhow.

Lasse, I dig how you tamed the bass drops, but you might want to turn them up! They don't hit as hard as the previous.

Absolutely loving the song, and the guitar tone is great and fitting! Everything sounds very tight and clear.

Aber, those lead tones... Ich liebe sie! What amp/processing was done with those?
