Auch wenn Gothic und Doom Metal zu den musikalischen Stilrichtungen zählen, bei denen sich meine Ohren geschmeichelt fühlen, kann ich mich für Without Face nicht wirklich begeistern. Zu unharmonisch und konfus erscheint das aktuelle Album 'Astronomicon', auf dem die ungarischen Mannen um Sängerin Juliette versuchen, durch extreme Vielfalt zu bestechen und besonders kreativ zu wirken. Doch was im Endeffekt aus den Boxen tönt, ist ein einziges Soundchaos! Weniger ist eben in den meisten Fällen mehr!
br> 'Astronomicon' enthält zwar nur sechs Songs, die dafür aber alle mit Überlänge. Und es ist echt unglaublich, wie jeder Titel auf seine eigene Art und Weise beginnt, spätestens nach drei Minuten zu nerven! Zu oft wiederholen sich die Melodien, die zu allem Überfluss auch noch nicht mal besonders eingängig sind! Zu inspirationslos klingen die Gitarren, zu überzogen die Keyboards. Zu gequält kommen die männlichen Grunzvocals daher und zu offensichtlich ist die Unfähigkeit, diese mit der engelsgleichen Stimme Juliettes zu vereinen.
Bis auf die akustische Ballade 'Daimonium' konnte mich kein einziger Titel im Gesamtbild überzeugen. Einzelne Fragmente sind schon gelungen, aber Without Face sollten definitiv ihren trashigen Sound zurückschrauben, denn Sängerin Juliette hat eindeutig klassisches Potential, welches auf 'Astronomicon' vergeblich einen Weg sucht, sich entsprechend zu profilieren.
