Is there anything a tad cheaper in price range that matches up to this preamp ? I can't really afford to spend the money on one of these at the moment.

basically looking for something a bit cheaper
that does a smiliar job.

M-Audio DMP3 (two channels....plenty of gain...I own one)

Studio Projects VTB-1 gets a mention around here and on GS as well.

The RNP is erm....really nice...for that price though.

haha was that a erm keep saving erm ?

or would i actually get the same quality from the preamps you mentioned ?

the preamps going to be used for micing my guitar and recording vocals

set up being - 6505 - engl 2x12 (vintage 30s) shure 57
and id like to try the 57 for vocals also

hmm the Studio Projects VTB-1 seems awefull cheap for a tube preamp ive been warned to stay away from cheap preamps

on a serious note though for example how much difference am i actually going to hear
using say the M-Audio DMP3 instead of the fmr rnp ?

hi. i own the rnp, quadmic and vtb1 and have used them all for about two years now on numerous recordings. the rnp is hands down the best and most versatile of the three. the quadmic second and the vtb1 last. all of them are fairly good and useful. the vtb1 is the noisiest of the bunch. the quadmic is the cleanest and the rnp usually sounds the best. both the rnp and quadmic are kinda clean(not transparent or colorful, just kinda clean) with the quadmic sometimes sounding boring to me compared to the rnp. i almost always go with the rnp for kick, snare top, rythem guitars and vox. the pres on my digimax lt are often more useful than the vtb1 or quadmic. unless you are going to build something, the rnp is pretty much the clear winner for me in the 250.00 a channel range. i have got results i liked with the vtb1 and quadmic, just not as many times as the rnp. good luck.
