The story in these songs is powerful, and it's told so convincingly. Does it have roots in any of the experiences of Evergrey members, or were they just being creative and empathic?

I'd say they were very much based on personal experiences and grief. They come across too true to the feelings to be fake IMO. Tom goes into his "inspiration" for writing lyrics in the interview on the "Night to remember" DVD.

Yeah. Before he came back I thought he was lost forever to music (metal). He influenced me greatly. I really should change that already.

I had a chat with Carina Englund online and she said "Words mean nothing" Is when her and Tom broke up. And Tom wrote that song for her.
