Hey Bro... I'm assuming the two videos are meant to demonstrate that Fergie can pull off live what she does in studio. If that's the case, the videos demonstrate that. However, to be fair, it's not exactly like she's performing Flight of Icarus in studio and then pulling it off live.
I was watching the Kenny Wayne Shepherd DVD (10 Days Out) the other day, where Kenny travels all over the south and interviews a number of old time Blues players, most of which are now between 70 and 90+ years of age. During Kenny's interview with Brian Lee, a blind guitar player who gave Kenny his first shot, Brian spoke about what made him give Kenny that first shot. In essence, he said it was because he couldn't see Kenny, and went on to suggest that music should most often be appreciated without any visual. Which brings me back to my overall problem with Fergie, the Black Eyed Peas and Pop music is general; their music is meant to be visual. In the pre-MTV world, these "artists" would likely have never been given record contracts. There's a reason female vocalists once looked like Janis Joplin and Barbara Streisand and now look like porn stars. Let's be fair, we've likely both seen strippers take the stage wearing more clothing than Fergie has on in that video. Music use to be about music, and really only the music. Of course, there were always exceptions to that rule, as there are to every rule. However, now it's the exception when it happens in reverse. Look at the waves Susan Boyle created. The world was stunned that an ugly person might have "talent", because we've been conditioned to believe that talented people look like runway models.
In the end, if you enjoy Fergie, that's cool. However, it's not for me.
