Hello all.
Ive been looking into buying a new amp for a while and have now narrowed it down to two choices, either a Peavey 6505plus (basically the 5150 mk 2 renamed) or a framus cobra? Has anyone tried out the cobra or recorded with one before? i tried one in a shop and it absolutely amazed me, but i still love that classic 5150 tone.
any advice on which one people prefer would be great (or if anyone has tried out the 6505 yet)

Cheers

Dan

I got my cobra just 2 days ago, and I have to say, it's probably the clearest sounding amp I've tried. No annoying frequences. I compared it to my triple rectifier and cobra really stands out. It's maybe better than recto...I have EMG-81 bridge pickup and with that the 3rd channel was really good. I have to record something with it to really get the idea what this beast is capable off, but first impression is really good. Big plus about the midi switchable channels because I have a TC G-force, so now I don't have to mess around with many pedals. Only minus is the clean channel. With my bridge pickup (81) I can't get a clean tone, but when I switch to neck position (EMG-HZ), it sounds great, and even with 81, it's still very usable. And who needs a totally clean tone anyways when you play metal. The notch switch is useless? if want something like that, by a metalzone :)

My opinion is that this amp is much better than 5150. Maybe if you make a modification to the 6505 , it might be as good as cobra.

in the thread above, there's a link to some sounds clips of cobra, but they sound like crap. I wouldn't trust them at all...

question to andy: have you tried cobra? and if yes what do you think about it.
