So, arriving back from RoSFest, the band that made the biggest impression on me was Fright Pig. My understanding is that Fright Pig is a studio project that was recorded over a span of 5 years. It is an interesting fusion of 70s style prog rock keyboards, classical guitar, hard rock vocals and pretty crunchy guitars. The CD liner notes show a hefty sense of humor, but the music itself is pretty serious stuff.
There isn't much on Youtube, but a couple of the instrumentals are up there.
Bark At The Lune:
Presumido:
For the show, it seems they raided Berklee for a bunch of talented kids. I got to say that the live performance was probably even better than the album. Most notable of the young guys was Serbian guitarist Alek Darcen who was kicking ass all night.
Since the album was only 45 minutes long, they had to fill time with the rest of the set with mostly covers. They did two Deep Purple covers ("Perfect Strangers" and "Burn"), Steve Vai's "Building The Church", a solo piece from Darcen's EP and a tribute to various prog rock keyboardists.
Overall, it was a great show, and I recommend picking up this CD at some point.
