Fuck iMac's and fuck Snow Leopard!

I believe he said it was refurbished, actually.

Guys, it doesn't matter if it's refurbished, you're forgetting about this in the OP:

"I've got to the point now where I've deleted and re installed my whole OSX from the disc and now it wont even find my router."

So if Software Update isn't done afterwards then it could be seriously crippled - I know because I had this problem with newly installed Snow Leopard as I've already explained...

It might be a dumb question but - have you updated your newly installed OS X via "Software Update"? I had an iMac and I also had the same problem when they released Snow Leopard and I had to wait until they sorted it out with updates ("Software Update" does both software and hardware/firmware updates so be sure to have the latest... and update whatever it offers you that is system related...). Good luck!

Done it all man. Updated to 10.6.7 (could have been 8?) but either I was up to date on all software updates. Even tried downgrading my airports firmware myself which didnt work. Did a fresh delete and re install, tested, nothing. Patched back up by the combo updates, nothing.

No apple support on sundays so I gotta wait till tomorrow :(

Try resetting the AirPort locations in the network settings. Create a a new location, connect with that profile (hit apply). Then go back in and delete the original location and rename the newly created profile it to whatever you want. A lot of times that is a good fix. Could be hardware, but AirPort cards are usually pretty solid...I barely see them need to be fixed. Though, doing a fresh install should have eliminated this step.

Here's a personal anecdote along the same lines...

A co-worker of mine had his father take his iMac to an Apple Store because he was having similar Wi-Fi issues. They tested the iMac overnight and found no issues. Took the computer home and the same issues occurred there, my co-worker looked at it some more and told his father to bring his computer in to our store. We checked it in and went ahead and replaced the airport card and antennas but made no guarantees. Tested the iMac at the store after repair and worked perfectly, just as it did before. He took the iMac home and the same issues occurred even with a brand new AirPort card and antennas. We even reset the airport settings in the software and tested with known good software, etc. At this point, my co-worker bought his dad a new router and what do you know, issue resolved.

I am not saying buy a new router, but it may just be that the iMac has some issues with the router. Being that you have a desktop, it is hard to test in multiple locations on multiple networks but if it works perfectly in other locations and networks, it is more than likely an issue with your router and this particular computer (but if you have tried different routers, it could definitely be an AirPort card issue). If you take it to a step and they aren't too backed up, you should have it back in a day or two.

Tried this too :(

Tried everything I've read online and still nothing. Tried different routers and still no luck. I've even done a hardware test (quick and extensive) and results come back as "no problems found"

I'm totally baffled.

Thank you for the help though man :)

I think the latest version of snow leopard was 10.6.8, and I know there were a few imac EFI firmware updates, dunno if/how many of those you went through. Man, that's really annoying, I've never encountered a mac with that many airport issues. :/

Tell me about it man. I'm sat here with 2 different routers, RIGHT next to my imac and my macbook. I'm on my macbook typing this and no problems at all with connecting and staying connecting. The iMac even finds it hard to pick up the routers AT ALL >:(

If it does find it, I'll enter the password and as soon as I click ok it gives me an instant "connection failed" message.

Apple need to fucking sort this out because this is my MAIN work source... 1 week away from uni too... great

Pretty much come to a conclusion. I'm going to fuck apple off and get a new USB network card. It seems as though MANY people have had this problem and a lot get the machine returned from repairs, still the same
problem, even with a new airport card. I can't really afford to wait 2 weeks or so to get it "fixed". I have uni and band work to get on with.

This problem dates back to 08....

Anyway, for anybody interested, google BearExtender n3. Looks and sound amazing. Built for mac. Works with snow leopard. Massive range and more for only £45!

dude get one of these

Internet through your power lines. I have this same one and it works awesome. You plug one into your router, one into your computer and it just works right out of the box.

Bit pricey for me right now I'm afraid man :(

Going to be getting that. Made by a student, affordable for students :P

Really cool story behind it too, Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg shit!
I recommend that EVERYONE checks out the BearExtender though. Looks like an AMAZING piece of kit. I'll report back on it by end of the week!

Edit: Thank you for the recommendation though Brian :) I'll defiantly keep it in mind for the future

Have you opened network utility and pinged Google (or any website, really) at all? Start sending a crapload of pings (500 or so) to see if you are getting any packet loss. Up to 3% is within acceptable range. Try with both routers if possible. Network issues can be a bitch.
