That's the truth, the labels get most of the money anyways, I don't know why some artists can be so greedy. If I was a recording artist I'd be happier to have many people know my music and enjoy my music even if I sell only a little bit.
Of course many artists, specially in the metal genre are pretty poor even when fairly famous in the metal community. But you don't hear them bitching and making lawsuits like those pricks pop music stars
