Ganon In the Dead of Sleep

The Neur-Isis-core explosion continues. Here we have Ganon, a five-piece ensemble comparable to Neurosis, Isis, Mouth of the Architect, Pelican, and about a million others. Unlike the sudden popularity of, say, metalcore, this branch of metal contains bands that range only from good to spectacular. In the Dead of Sleep falls more closely to the latter, but that isnt really a major achievement because its kind of expected at this point.
Naturally, since Ganon resemble the forerunners so closely, In the Dead of Sleep observes the staples of this particular subgenre with a steady, unfaltering eye. Again, music of this nature conjures the ocean due in part to all the drifting and sprawling as well as the crashing of waves, which manifests itself in distorted climaxes punctuated by husky vocals. Much of the full-length is instrumental comes with the territory yet the members seem to be sensible songwriters cuz ItDoS is never mundane. Whether youre absorbing the calm, Isis-like Lifting Skies, the edgy instrumental Approach, or the emotion-ridden It Speaks, Ganon prove theyre on the top of their game. Nonetheless, they sometimes emulate the heavyweights too much, and I couldnt quite get past the generic, by-the-numbers vibe that continually reared its ugly head.
So if you havent tired of this brand after hitting the main attractions, and are always up for another ride, you couldnt do much better than In the Dead of Sleep. However, considering albums by Tides, Mouth of the Architect, Kenoma, Russian Circles, Ostinato, Cardinale, and Cult of Luna are available for order right now with additions to the menu coming soon from bankable acts such as Red Sparowes, Isis, and Neurosis Ganon may ironically become lost in a sea of their peers. Well, back to Zelda .
