Both my husband and I are metal fans and have been listening to mainly metal since the early nineties. Both him and I still listen to Genesis and Phil Collins. Is it a coincidence or does Phil rock? What do you other metal fans think of that type of music? Do you like it or are we late 70- early 80-ist simply nostalgic? Otherwise he listens mainly to black metal and I black- progressive- goth.

Your opinion seems to be more in line with the popular consensus. I never cared much for Peter Gabriel for some reason.

I've never liked any period of Genesis.

But if you're a real music fan then... Yeah, it's a coincidence, because liking one genre doesn't mean you have to like or dislike any other genre.

I pity the countless morons that put limits upon their enjoyment for whatever bullshit psychological or social reasons.

tagradh, I agree with your analysis. But when it comes to metal it usually boils down to either you love it or you hate it. I rarely listen to popular music and none of my popular music friends listen to any kind of metal, they don't understand it at all.

I just find it kind of curious that my hubby and I both like listening to genesis now and then.

In metal documentaries they sometimes bring up this phenomenon of love or hate. Apparently metal music has some kind of "devil note" that only a certain percentage of the population responds to.

The Devil's note you are talking about is the tritone, called "Diabolus in musica" in the middle ages.
