Germans love Manowar even more than David Hasselhoff

Everything is guarenteed to go to the top of the charts in Germany. They're pretty much the peak over there. I was in germany a good 6 months to a year after Warriors of the World came out and it was still prominantly on display in record stores and apparently was still selling incredibly well. Pretty impressive no matter how you look at it.

Manowar have always been huge in Germany.
Unlike Cooper, Whitesnake, etc, they are not a "nostalgia" act.

I didn't realize that Manowar got such little love around here. I always thought they were one of the smartest bands out there when it comes to continuing as a going concern.

Oh there is not much love on this forum for Manowar. I like them and always have. I don't care much for the new material over the last 2-3 albums but I would go if I could to see 6 albums played over 2 days. I aint scared!

Manowar is a mixed bag for me. I do enjoy many of their albums, I do enjoy the subject matter of their songs (battle, metal, mythology, being loud and shit)...but I think they're a little too much. Too much "TRUE METAL! YEAH!"...too much full of themselves, and too much on the loin cloths. Still I think headlining a festival two nights in a row is pretty ridiculous.

And there's no way Germans love anything more than David Hasselhoff.

MANOWAR hasn't worn loincloths in 25 years.

Manowar is throwing their own festival again and they are headlining over the likes of Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Ted Nugent, & Alice Cooper. They are playing both nights consisting of two special sets where they perform their first six albums in their entirety.

Kill me now.

Wow, you really do NOT like Manowar! :zombie:

As the biggest (and tallest) Manowar fan in the state of Minnesota, I will be the first to admit that their egos far outstrip their accomplishments. But give them a break ... it is their festival and at least they are trying to do something unique and exciting in the country where they are the most renown. And as I'm sure you'd point out if someone yelped about the way you position bands on PP, the other bands agreed to the position otherwise they wouldn't be on there.

Personally, I would give anything to see Manowar play their first 6 albums. They hardly play any of that material in concert anymore. If plane tickets to Germany didn't cost as much as as a Lexus, I would be going this year for sure. Oh well ... here's hoping there is a Magic Circle 2009!

Come on Nathan. You (and several others here & in other threads) need to lighten the fuck up.

1. The title was a play on the Norm McDonald days in SNL as Fatesfan noted.

2. I *know* it is their festival and they can do what they want. Do folks think I'm that stupid? I don't give a rat's ass about all that. My comment was based on both the fact that those other bands have sold an assload more albums and do have a higher percieved status (outside the Manowar fanboys) everywhere but possibly Germany. It boggles my mind, especially considering the altar that I put Coverdale up on. If everyone else is allowed to question my decisions, then why cannot I comment on others in return (even if I already know the answer)?

3. No, I don't care much for Manowar. However, it's just my opinion of the music and not an assault on their festival or even them as individuals. Thus, the "kill me now comment" (Triumph the Insult Comic Dog - Bon Jovi reference).

sheesh...

I understand what you are getting at, but can I just say that I really really hate it when people refer to bands that had mainstream popularity a decade ago as "nostalgia acts," DESPITE the fact that those bands are still creating, producing and touring NEW material. The new Whitesnake album is one of the best new releases I've heard this year. It might not be your cup of tea, but that still doesn't mean that they are a nostalgia act.

Personally, I just about crapped my pants when I saw the bill for this. I like Manowar - Sure they are cheezy, but most metal bands I like (and even some I don't) have some element of cheese to them. The fact that Doro, Holy Hell and Benedictum are also on the bill is what really peaked my interest. Add to that bands like Gotthard, Whitesnake, Mob Rules, Alice Cooper, WASP, MSG, StormWarrior, and Majesty, and you've got one kick-ass festival lineup IMO, whether you like the headliner or not. (Yes, I know I'm a big power metal fan which is what most of this is so I'm a little biased.) The only conflict I feel about going is due to a lack of funding and the fact that I believe this is the same weekend as Rocklahoma, which will probably be my only chance to see Lita Ford live ... ever.

I do have to agree with Glenn's recent comment though about Germany basically being the only place where Manowar would fall on a lineup above some of the other bands listed. I was a little surprised at the order of the lineup in some instances.

OK, first post here on the forums after lurking for a couple of months. Just couldn't resist this topic.

I actually talked my wife into a vacation in Europe this summer with a visit to the Magic Circle Fest right in the middle of it. I am a big-time Manowar fan and have been for about 25 years. Started listening to them when Into Glory Ride was released while I was in high school. I've seen them only once live and the blew my head off. Can't wait to see them again. I even got my wife to listen some, even though she makes fun of them too. Sure they are cheesy. I need some cheese in my life.

I am not thrilled at all about seeing any other band there, but who knows if this is the only/last time that Manowar will play some of their classics (Battle Hymn for one). Plus the first time ever for Crown & the Ring, I think. Also going to another one day fest to see Diablo Swing Orchestra. Too bad they didn't get a PP invite.

Cheers.

Bill
