So I just found out that Lamb of God, In Flames, Hatebreed, and Hellyeah(?) are coming to the closest venue to me which is only like 15 mins away.

I sent an email to the venue asking about info on possibly opening for the show.

My guess is that tons of bands have already inquired about this.

Has anyone successfully got onto an opening show of a tour, with bands of this caliber? Have you had to pay a shit ton of $$$$?!?!

You either need to directly know, or have someone who knows the talent buyer for the venue, otherwise you probably have no chance. Shows this big usually don't just let bands "buy on" unless it's for the whole/partial tour.. if your band is signed and you have a booking agent you probably at least have somewhat of a chance.. if not.. well you get the idea

The only time I have seen bands get on this big of shows (5000+ ppl venues) around here was the singer worked for a venue that was owned by the same company.. he had all the contacts and used them to get his band on some pretty big shows

Yeah seems to be who you know. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how a local band kept getting shows with huge acts on the big festivals that were coming through town (korn, staind etc...) till I figured out they were best buds with the guy that runs those big ass shows.

They completely suck to boot.

A tour package of that caliber could easily have language in their contract that specifies no local support, if that's the way they happen to want it. Local bands can help bring out a few more people (they can also bring out literally no one), which puts more people in front of smaller touring bands, as well as helps the promoter collect enough money to pay for a tour package, but when the tour package is high profile enough, local bands really aren't necessary at all for either the tour or the promoter.

I've seen bands get some decent big band tour local support slots by being in the right place at the right time or even asking sometimes. They're usually once in a blue moon though or they're a band thats previously been a big touring act but is currently on the way out, if they're lamb of god/in flames size and still relevant though you're probably out of luck.

"Bump" into the promoter somewhere or give him a call and sound serious and professional. It works a lot better than sending emails and hoping. You still need a lot of luck, but if you meet the guy, talk to him for a while and he likes you it could give you a shot.
