Sorry another guitar question. Just wondering if any of you have had experience with Gibson SG's especially the special with EMG 81's in the bridge. What are your thoughts? Good heavy rock rhythm guitar (Breaking Benjamin, 3 days grace etc.)
not got huge experiences with them, but the last sg i recorded came out really nice. was just with passives though.
FWIW bendeth (bb producer) says he isnt a fan of active PU's, so depending on how much you want to go for their tone it might be worth looking into what they use.
Was mine, influenced by the one Robb Flynn played in the the more things change days (I was young). Loved the sound and the weight but hated the neck, I just really dont gel with gibbo necks.
I like SG for sirty and sludgy rock stuff and doom etc.
for more modern/polished sounding stuff I don't like SGs at all...they always have this agressive dirty bark to them instead of a smooth thick tone
SG's are great. I think Lasse's description is pretty accurate though, they tend to have this nasty barking sound to them. Great for all styles that involve some dirt. Definitely don't buy one if you think superstrats with emg's through an ENGL amplifier is what defines great sound
