I had all mine cut off today..but mine was never that long really.

chop all the hair down the middle of ur head short and then backcomb it up and then tie the two long pieces at the side of ur head back and hey presto instant mohawk mullet effort.

That's an idea, but i'd like a haircut that wouldn't require a lot of "care"
