i think you should change you pickup. i saw on one forum that d sonic are not good for metal.try emg81 and you will have the tone!

I actually really like the D-Sonic, you should get better sound, but better playing helps, too.
That doesn't sound very tight to me, and a bit undergained, try to add the tube screamer
model in the xt before the amp, drive at 0-1/10, tone around the middle and level at 5-7/10
to get a boost in front of the amp, that could help a bit.
What settings did you use on the POD Xt?

I'm using a screamer. that's the best sound I can get. sorry for the playing.

What's with the hate? GoddamnGuitar is a cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything.

But seriously, I don't think the guitar is the problem. I'm afraid I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but most of the tone in that song is the bass. You can't use the "Petrucci pickup" and then run it through a POD XT and expect it to sound like Petrucci. It's all in the playing and the mix. And the bass.

Solo'd guitars never sound super good, at least not in the way you'd imagine.

i have recorded several songs with it but no. it does not sound good.
or actually i can't get the tone i would like from it.
