Godhead's Lament

My only complaint is that there are a few to many "ah's" and "oh's" and such. You know what I mean?

MAYH: I love it because of the chants.

BP: I love it because of the grunts, though they're everywhere.

Godhead's Lament: I love it because of the accoustic and clean vox section. :(

it has the great 6/8 bounce to it, but what's really cool is the same triple-layer guitar effect as on Dirge For November: they start out with base, Peter on harmony, and Mikael on melody, but after a statement of that, they layer on a third guitar above that.

and yes, it has a wonderful clean section

Agreed.

This was the first opeth song I heard. I heard it on the radio, and I went insane.

9 minutes, such a long song, it started heavy, went clean, and heavy again. I loved the structure, I loved his voice.

I was hooked.

Fantabulous song.

It´s funny how almost every song of theirs is in 6/8 (or 12/8).
It makes the riffs sound very round...

yep, listening to Opeth too much caused me to write every single riff in 6/8!!!! With great difficulty ive overcome it, but i dunno... theres still something about 6/8.. its.... uh... well its not 4/4.

'red eyes probe the scene, all the same'...

'searching my way to perplexion, the gleam of her eyes, in that moment she knew'...

...oops, I got lost in the guitars, uhmm, it's all gooooooood!

'still brooding, soothing calm'...awww

this song is awesome...It was the first one that kept my attention on still life...

Those beautiful arpeggios that starts up the clean section are simply amazing and then the clean singing enters to completely overwhelm me!

MARAUUUUUUUUUUDERRRRRRRRRRR!!!

I love it above all. What amazes me the most is how bare emotions are shoved down your throat one after one so explicitly. Dammit, the song covers basically all of a human being's emotional scale, from murderous rage to sweetest love. On a lighter note, it's a real "swinging" song too. ;)

Guitar-wise, it's definitely the band's high point.
