Gojira- The way of all flesh

Iowa smell = awesome

I swear slipknot albums have a general 'musk' about them, the new one was not half as satisfying as Iowa was though....

Yeah. Iowa was something on a whole other level at that time period.

A lot of people bitch about slipknot, but if it wasn't for Iowa that was pretty much hyped a lot of kids wouldn't be into the even heavier metal than slipknot.
For me slipknot was that bridge between the nu-metal and the real death/black/thrash metal.

One of my favorite things about Gojira is how they wear their Morbid Angel influence on their sleeves, but pull it off in a way that keeps it fresh and exciting. I wonder how many kids will someday hear Morbid Angel's Domination and be reminded of Gojira, heh. I'm not crazy about Morbid Angel, but the my favorite elements of them shine through in Gojira and I love that. Plus Joe is probably my favorite metal singer at the moment.

I love it! After hearing it I had a sigh of relief now that it doesn't sound as mechanical as Divine Heresy's album (which I can't find any less musical).
Randy's vocals are huge in the song he features in..actually so is everything else!

song N°2 is sick, the production is great, the thing I like the most about this album is the drum work, it sounds real neat.

great album from a great band

cheers

just picked this one up. and it is SICK! :kickass:

how the hell do they get those killers pick scrapes? just wicked!

What's going on with the Track listing btw?

On the Myspace where most of the album is streamed in order (I'm assuming because of what is said in the blog) with the Title Track being the first song.

"We had planned to stream the whole "The Way of All Flesh" album from Sept 29th up to Oct 5th but due to unfortunate problems with the brand new Myspace player, we 're only able to stream ten songs.
We hope that the last 2 songs "Oroborus" and "Vacuity" will be on the player soon."

But on their Metal Archives page the last song is the title track (with the bonus song/audio)?

Pretty much all the live footage I've seen of Gojira has them using Mesa Rectifiers. To me, the tone sounds a bit more Recto than 5150. Whatever it is, it's beyond sick. Everything about this album sounds REALLY REALLY good. Definitely going to be a reference cd for my mixes.

yeah, most live pics or vids i see them using the Mesa / Marshall rig. but their myspace page has videos of them recording WOAF and there are definately 5150's being used. the liner notes of Mars To Sirius also says they use 5150's.

true that. but doesnt anyone remember when the first one was released. that one had way more of an impact on me. iowa was kinda disappointing to tell the truth. "wait and bleed" was responsible for bringing heaviness back into the mainstream. of course the ground was broke by bands like korn, limp bizkit, but slipknot was the heaviest band at the time getting videos played on mtv. and the first song (sic) was killer. i remember blasting it for the first time and being like "holy fuck" lol what a n00b!

sorry for the OT, as for gojira, I will def. be checking them out!

I really don't "get" this band.. And I've tried.

I've seen them twice, and I just .. can't get into it.

I must be missing something, but there just doesn't seem to be anything other than formulaic about their song structure and rhythms [complex blah blah - still sound the same].

What is "it" that I'm missing?

It's the fact that they don't sound like every other metal band that does it for me. Always doing something new.

And they're flawless musicians.
