Gojira- The way of all flesh

I really don't "get" this band.. And I've tried.

I've seen them twice, and I just .. can't get into it.

I must be missing something, but there just doesn't seem to be anything other than formulaic about their song structure and rhythms [complex blah blah - still sound the same].

What is "it" that I'm missing?

formulaic song structures? :loco:
I absolutely cannot see here you are coming from with that.. listen to the Art of Dying off this album or something

That sounds fucking awesome dude! Can we get any more details on everything? What else are you using in the guitar chain? What about the drums? Kick and snare sound fantastic...

Yo! Thx dude.

guitar is tss -> wagner 2 -> boogex (that impulse) -> maybe some eq don't remember

drums is superior 2 snare and kick are blended don't really remember which samples, one could be gubbkuk kick (which is great:zombie:)
i wasn't satisfied with drums and i improved a few things now, i'll post later

hope wild hades will tell me if that impulse is ok or needs to be fixed...:headbang:

Once you've heard one song by them, they all have the similar groove and layout..
Maybe I'm just not getting their grooves.

On this studio video: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yHUzV3HyVY&feature=related[/ame] you can see a pair of 5150's running into what looks like a Boogie cab and in the studio photos on their myspace page you can see an EVH 5150 III with what I'm pretty sure is an original 5150 next to it. Between the new Testament guitar tone and Gojira I badly want a 5150 III. I'm going into the studio next week and there's a place in NYC that rents out gear and they have the EVH. I may have to drop the $$$ and give it a try.

I wouldn't own a 5150 III man.. have heard so many bad things about their reliability, plus, the first one I ever saw.. well, I was super pumped to try it out. Went to go play it, clean channel was great, the crunch channel was awesome, and then the lead channel did not work. We tried to change back to the other channels - they all stopped working as well. So a brand new, very expensive head was broken with less than five minutes playtime on it. Never really looked into buying one again.

According to that video, they used a POD. o_O

Strangely, I had a similar situation with a 5150 combo in the studio.
Really thought they were bullet proof.. but this one just tonally sucked, and just seemed broken.

Each of us probably has a story like that. Mine involved a Boogie Triaxis that I went into the store to buy and in the middle of giving it one last try before dropping the cash the display started to spin like a slot machine. The pedal board no longer communicated with it and it was scrolling through the million fucking presets that are on it. Anyway, I saved myself an enormous $1200.

I'd still like to try a 5150 III in the studio. I'm not sure what the rental fee is but it can't be too bad for 3-4 days.

In my case the best piece of gear is always the one you see right after you bought the last 'best' piece of gear.

There's a guy on the Jackson Charvel Forum who went through FOUR 5150 IIIs because he loved the sound so much, but they all self-destructed. I know even the best stuff breaks down sometimes (and I've seen alot of that in the last month, unfortunately), but that story above is where I draw the line and say the EVH 5150 III is indeed unreliable.

which store in NYC rents out 5150 IIIs wanna try it for a band i'm recording.

also i have to agree with james i am waiting until it comes in stores as i've never downloaded an album a) because i dont want to and b) i don't even know where to get it from

but i heard some leaked songs on you tube low quality obviously and just the early tastes started peeling the skin off my balls as they were so good and heavy. they are easily one of my favorite metal bands out today. WAAAY at the top of a very short list in a world full of shit metal bands.

What's going on with the Track listing btw?

On the Myspace where most of the album is streamed in order (I'm assuming because of what is said in the blog) with the Title Track being the first song.

"We had planned to stream the whole "The Way of All Flesh" album from Sept 29th up to Oct 5th but due to unfortunate problems with the brand new Myspace player, we 're only able to stream ten songs.
We hope that the last 2 songs "Oroborus" and "Vacuity" will be on the player soon."

But on their Metal Archives page the last song is the title track (with the bonus song/audio)?

I believe they mean it as "the last remaining songs to be added", not "the last two songs on the album".

Here's the link to the company that rents out equipment. They/re called S.I.R. and they rent gear for major tours, high profile bands going into the studio, etc. You have to set up an account with them and then I think they'll send you the rates. It' right out side of the Holland Tunnel if I'm not mistaken. They have all kinds of great gear that they rent.

I decided against renting the head as I'm already recording with a Dual Rec, a Boogie .50 Caliber, and a 5150. That should cover EVERY tone that I might need. It's disappointing to hear about the poor reliability of the 5150 III, especially after the huge feature that Guitar World did on he and the amp where he bragged about how bulletproof the amp was. Too bad.

I'm bumping the fuck out of this.. I really want to know more about the production of this album..
