Goo Goo Dolls anyone ?

I can listen to em on the radio and I used to listen to them alot. They are from where i live so they get alot of radio press, good Rock band imo

hahaah
man i saw them on the quad at the University of Alabama and like 10 times down the streets of Tuscaloosa. I NEVER understood how they could have EVER been on Metal Blade Records...i saw them and Stuck Mojo like 3 times together in weird places. So to me the GooGoo Dolls are kinda like harbingers of something like a tornado or a hurricane...you better stay the hell away cause something is fixin' to happen kind of a band... Kinda like Drivin N Cryin....
now im all spooked....

I dig them as well.
A catchy song is a catchy song....
I have been into them since HOLD ME UP came out..
The video for THERE YOU ARE was awesome!!

Jed, Superstar Carwash, Boy Named Goo, Dizzy Up The Girl, Gutterflower - excellent albums.

Let Love In - We dropped the ball and sucked a big one.
Agreed. I liked them for quite some time, but haven't listened to them in ages.

I never followed them that closely, but they always struck me as a decent band, that emerged from a garage rock sound to start making some cool hard rocking type songs ("Long Way Down", for instance). But then when "Name" unexpectedly became a hit, they got so wrapped up in that sound (and even moreso when "Iris" became an even bigger hit), that they forgot how to rock, and have been locked into making a whole bunch of weepy, semi-acoustic, semi-ballads ever since.

Strangely enough however, as an underground metal fan, their commercial success was a good thing for me. When Warner Bros paid off Metal Blade to sign the band directly in 1997, as opposed to continuing to license them through Metal Blade, Metal Blade used that money to sign some cool underground bands and / or license their albums for US distribution during the late 1990's. They wound up putting out a bunch of stuff domestically that would otherwise only have been available as an expensive import, or not available at all.

I love them! They have great SONGS! Good to see others on this board who appreciate good pop music.

The Counting Crows are another great band in this vein - amazing song writing and powerful performances! Can't wait to see them live in August!

You called it. I started listening to them when "Superstar Car Wash" came out, and loved that album. Then "A Boy Named Goo" came out and I liked most of it, but even then I could tell that the ballads were pointing the way to a sound I disliked. On the next couple of albums, I found a couple of songs that I liked but those were being crowded out by ballads and "mature" material. I never bothered with the last one because everything I heard about it was bad.

FWIW, I also like Counting Crows.

The Dolls or whatever never did much for me. I guess I could stand a few songs from them here and there.

Counting Crows are a top 5 favorite of mine. Seen em maybe 12 time, not sure. One of the best and consistent live bands of my generation. Will definitely be catching their summer tour.

Cool to see some Counting Crows fans here! I think their song writing is top notch, and their live performances are great - so passionate and they play their songs different each time. Adam is my 2nd favorite lyricist ever (behind Roger Waters) - such imaginative and colorful lyrics - makes everyone else seems so cliché and juvenile to me...

Another Goo Goo Dolls semi-fan here. Not a HUGE fan, but I appreciate their songs and definitely don't hate them. I used to be a hard core Counting Crows fan UNTIL I saw them live. Saw them at Chastain Park in Atlanta several years ago and I couldn't stand it. Don't know what it was, just couldn't dig it. Haven't popped in one of their CDs since.

I love the Counting Crows too. Their new album, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, came out last weekend!

I'm also really into Vertical Horizon (especially Go, Running On Ice, There & Back Again, Live Stages) and Third Eye Blind (especially Blue, Out Of The Vein).

Live is another one... Distance To Here, Birds of Pray, excellent stuff.
