My band will be recording with a Carvin V3 sometime this month, however, we are missing a crucial part, and that is a good cab. If we acquire a great sound with the amp, but record through mediocre speakers such as those found in a crate cabinet, will the recording suffer?

Also to save space, what kind of signal is sent out to a reamp box, and what does the reamp box convert it to?

Thanks guys!

Line level "low Z" (check your soundcards' manual if you want to know exactly how many ohms signal it is outputting) to guitar level "high Z" (check your reamp box manual if you want to know exactly how many ohms signal it is outputting) :heh:

You may record the direct signal from the preamp (by connecting the fx send of the amp with your interface) along with the micked cab. If the micked tracks turn out bad (which is likely if you're using a crate cab) you can use the preamp track with good impulses like the ones GuitarHack made or those Burny made, for example.

As for the reamp box - you should send the DI tracks of your guitars from your interface outputs to the input of the reamp box. You should read the 'sticky' thread for more info.
