Hey, guys. I want to get a good quality pop filter for my SM7B. I've managed to get along without one, but I think having one would help out. So, which to get?

I honestly don't have much experience with pop filters. I did buy a $20 one from GC before, and was pretty disapointed in it's quality.

You can make your own out of pantyhose or something of that sort of material.

I just use a thomann popscreen ( http://www.thomann.de/nl/the_tbone_ms_280.htm ).
It's pretty big, which is nice imo. It's metal, so it's easy to clean after the chainsmoking vocalist who never heard of a toothbrush is done unleashing his corrosive saliva. Big plus imo.

Not noticing any loss in quality when recording with it, so I'm happy :)

EDIT: didn't see you live in the States, sorry man!

Does the quality of a pop filter honestly make a blind bit of difference? Other than durability and the strength of the gooseneck I don't really see why one would be better than another?

Yeah there isn't much in the way of 'quality' between pop filters.

My biggest thing is now the material used. Cloth or Metal.

I used a metal pop filter and hated it. Hated it even more when one vocalist decided he likes to be lip tight against it. even a fist length back I still didn't enjoy the sound of it. I personally felt like you get this airy wind kind of noise as the vocal passes through it and into the mic. I will never use one again.

Instead I use a Samson pop filter that is cloth. I think it's double layered.

Yea, I have to admit that there is an audible difference between a cloth and a metal screen. I also own one of those double-layered cloth ones. I noticed that it smoothens the highs a bit more (obviously). This could be good or bad depending on your source I guess.

I've also noticed that the metal one leaves quite some air through. Not enough to cause plossives, but still enough that I would be worried to use it in front of my cheapo ribbon. Then again, I'm probably overworried when using ribbons ^^ It's like I'm holding my breath whenever I'm using one.

The cleaningthing is a big issue for me though. No matter what I do to my clothscreen, I can't get rid of the smell
