you wanna keep? Get it backed up then.......do it!!

(Sage advice from the man whos hard drive has just irretrievably died and has had to start again from scratch with a brand new drive. Also, whilst restoring Windows etc from the master disk, have discovered the bloody Virus programme of all things is causing the system to crash.......ironic that!!!!)

Moral of the story, back it up!!!!!

that sorta shit happens to my friend all the time lol...
luckily most of the stuff i have on my computer, i have stashed on 'family comp' tooooooo

1. Mirrored disks. Storage is so cheap nowadays that there's no real excuse not to. That way if your main disk fails, no problem. All the data is still on the other disk. If you've got the case, then mirrored RAID5 works a treat, but it's a bit overkill for home use :)
2. LVM. Doesn't give you any extra protection should your disk fail, but the ability to resize a filesystem on the fly is invaluable, particularly in these times of huge disks. Couldn't live without it these days.
