Got my first guitar - is this a decent tone to begin with?

Hi everyone,
this is my first attempt at recording guitar.I had my first lesson last week so the playing is as rubbish as it gets, but I'd like to know if the tone in general is decent enough to try mixing it.

Tone isn't too bad, too much distortion though in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try it with less gain...

Could someone take a listen to my DI file too?
Compared to the DIs I found on this forum mine sound absolutely horrible but I'm not sure if it's just my bad playing or if my equipment/input chain is part of the problem as well.

I doesn't sound terrible at all. Most of guys here have Hi-end guitars, so maybe that's it.
What is your DI capturing chain?

and clean dist playing with a little depth..its all cool

My input chain is this:

Guitar (EMG81 bridge, volume & tone at max) --> LINE6 UX2 --> DAW

I could get this DI Box (used) pretty cheap:

My chain would then be: guitar --> DI box --> m-audio delta audiophile 2496 --> DAW

Would you prefer this setup to the UX2?

OK listen, your tone is good, your equipment is good, you don't need to get anything else but just don't start recording before learning to play. It's pointless.
