You forgot a band call Dream Theater. I know, it's a goofy name and probably no one has heard of them. HAHAAAHAHAH

Just kidding.

Add Celtic Frost to the list. They were the innovators. Into the Pandemonium ended up becoming one of heavy metal and rock's most influential albums and ended up spawning most of the modern goth and dark/black metal.

These bands are pretty good.

Swallow the Sun.
Mercenary.
Aurora.
Insomnium.
Compos Mentis.
Illnath.
Of the Wand and The Moon.

sknight: Forst are my **all time** fave band. However, I must day that "To Mega Tehrion" is my vote for most influential album. (One of the most in metal in general, actually...) The use of female vocals *alone* is like a how-to manual for things that came nearly a decade later...

Here are a couple good bands:

Edguy(Melodic Power Metal)
Manowar(True Metal)
Lanfear(Progressive power metal)
Farmer Boys(Melodic Gothic Metal)
Eldritch(Progressive Power metal)
Soilwork(Melodic Death Metal)
Atmosfear(Progressive metal)
Into Eternity(Progressive melodic death metal)

And even though somebody already said it, I have to again reinstate Ayreon. They're album The Human Equation is a true masterpiece of music.

I would have to add Balance of Power to this list. Their old singer is now the singer for Pyramaze, another kick ass band that someone mentioned already.
Pyramaze is one of the best new up and coming bands I've heard in a while so if you haven't heard them, give them a listen!

I'll have to add in these up and coming brits, most people compare them to Evergrey and I see the comparison, dark brroding proggresive metal.
They really are amazing live and on CD

Humanity www.humanity6.co.uk

And why not these guys, recordings do them no justice, they are the best live band I've seen apart from Evergrey and possibly Balance Of Power...
Like Manowar but minus the attitudes and plus a better sense of humour...

Conquest Of Steel www.conquestofsteel.co.uk

yeah pyramaze is ok
Yeah I think the keyboardist holds that band back though.... :D Just joking man! I was upset not to see you guys play at that Minnesota metal fest. We were on the bill but then we weren't able to do it. That was my main reason to wanna play that festival actually was to see you guys live haha. Any more US shows in the works?
