Great soloing advice

shit ...... people aint right around here

Europa another top 5 pieces of guitar work in my catalog, was definantly #2 behind Kid Charlemane in the late 70's, after Stairway to Heaven was dethroned, now Ill put it back in my top five most inspirational, just cause thoses were my days, not because it was most excellent or anything, All Along the Watch Tower, hell I still love Mississippi Queen and Radar Love, shows how primitive I am. All Right Now, all feel guitar work, Whats his name from Boston has a few singers ..... hey in fact that one Boston song follows melody but twisted

anyhow, I guess Trower is just to deep for you air heads ...........
because you've been to long crossing ..... Bridge of Sighs

{grins wolfish grin, drops tail and hauls ass}

I need to get out more ...... I mean Moore

Meedly...you really need to post something...I'm curious to hear you...you sound like a mature, bright, young player with a good head on your shoulders. You probably don't suck at all like us old farts here. Ha!

hopefully in the not-TOO-distant future:erk:

When I go back to school next thursday I'll see if they have my copies of spring's ensemble recordings for me. I'll definitely have some pieces from classical-ensemble in the next couple months and I'm going to try to book studio time at the school (for free:D ....one of the best parts about this school) for some of my own stuff in the spring. Hopefully each of those situations turns out favorably.

Cool...I can't wait to hear you. Best of luck at school...I wish you great success!

Wow, lots to catch up on.

Thanks, Michael, for the compliment. My ears and mouth must somehow have interconnection.

About the soloing following the melody of the song, I definitely agree. It can be a great starting point to a solo to repeat the chorus melody and then lift off from there. Or, a big statement on the guitar followed by a repeat of a melody from the song, either chorus or verse, and then a punctuation from the guitar works very well.

But, take a song like Military Man where Moore goes into a more jazzy groove for the solo, very separated from the driving metal of the rest of the song. He makes a huge statement there, and then brings it back. Goodness gracious, I love that song.

thanks dude:kickass:

You bet! Hope to hear you tearing up the fretboard while I do this :OMG:

and then this :worship:

Hey...two great non neo classical releases...Blues Saraceno's Plaid...he's a great somewhat forgotten hard rock/boogie player from the golden age of shredders...and Chris Poland's Chasing the Sun...we all know who he is.

I liked Blues. I only got his debut though. He shows up every now and then.

How 'bout Joe Bonamassa, particularly on the Bloodline S/T album? That was some shit! Now he's a pretty solid blues guy.

Oh man...the first two tracks on that Bloodline that knock your socks off...and he was just a teenager when that was recorded...he was a pudgy kid. Stone Cold Hearted and Dixie Peach...awesome!

I love Blues' tone.

I saw Smokin' Joe on that Bloodline tour, in a Lubbock bar nonetheless. Here's this 16-year-old kid with big coke-bottle glasses drinking a Diet Coke like Yngwie drinks red wine, and just absolutely ripping the shit out of the place. It was pretty easy to spot which guy in the house was his dad though - big huge smile on his face. I will always be a Smokin' Joe fan.

Plaid is probably his best cd, IMO. We got to see him do a clinic
a LONG time ago. I remember him being cool, even though I told him Van Halen's Diver Down is longer than his cd..... :)

Even if he did drop the "Smokin'"...I kinda liked that.

He's awesome...a tremendous and sophisticated command of the blues...like Robben Ford.

Per Nilson from Scar Symmetry / Kaipa always takes first place when it comes to soloing imo. His phrasing is incredible, his technique is spotless, and his choices of notes are often far from ordinary.

His solos employ large intervals (often at high speeds) and use a lot of sliding, sweeping, and legato which gives them a very smoth and flowing feel. When I listen to Kaipa's new album I just cant imagine anyone doing a better job on the guitar.

Yeah, that dude is good!:headbang: Intelligent and insightful response, huh?

He'll always be Smokin' to me.

Diver Down - that's funny JDub.

I thought so, and so did Blues. Apparantly I wasn't the only one who has given him a hard time about it...

don't get the Diver Down thing...is that a particularly short album? I'm not much of a Van Halen fan...I appreciate his part for the instrument, but never really liked the band.

IIRC, it's like 28 or 29 minutes long. Which even on vinyl is QUITE irritating... :)
