Greatboard/Podheavynesstrack....

first off i wanna say the wealth of info on this board is great, looks to be a great community of engineers an musicians....
(Andys pod tones are rippin)
I was wondering if i can get an opinion on a file im working on recently...
It was recorded with the podxt running off a mackiecr1604(with a digitech 2101 on the effects loop),its a Treadplate Dual....
Problem im having with it is aminor one,im having to monitor the signal a little ukrainian style, because of the size of the cords im having to run the monitor off the suround channels(kinda crappy at the moment)so this is about 85% of what it will sound like.....trying to look for an alternative running the cables like is is a bit of grief*lol*....
the file to listen to is here:
http://www.myspace.com/alexzandretta
the track to listen to is called"Bareballzfiddlin"...(wrote while in my gitch :loco: trying to figure out a way around the monitor issue,so i used this to test it out in general,so i figured the name was appropriate )

It's a touch washy as i was doing it fast(not to mention flubbin a few notes here an their*lol*....just don't play enough like that these days,so scuse my out of shapeness).
Experimenting with setting up the delays to tempo etc(so the effects end of things on the leads a little loud at the moment)
the way im monitoring it right now makes for judgin the high an lowend real tricky.....its close though.

Anwyas i'll shaaadup now an let you check out the file, idea's on the tone would be appreciated.
looking forward to hanging out on here:Alex Zandretta

Not much to say apart from, you need to notch out the POD XT 'fizz', it's mainly around 13kHz.

I can't thank you enough for alerting my attention to this. You have just made a massive positive difference in my recordings... I can't believe I never noticed this...

I am going to be meeting with Line 6 soon and I will ask them about this.

When you say notch do you mean "boost" or "cut" the 13khz frequency? And if so how many dbs. I'm using Anwida's 31 band eq and it has some good precison.

I used the elemental audio's Equiem an created a notch filter with that(cut the frequency around 13k).
(its a pretty insane eq really....limitless band, harmonics the whole nine).
Ive also got a notch filter on my old Digitech 2101 that does a good job of cleaning stuff up to...
hope that answers your question:  A.Z.

To 'Notch out' means to use a filter/EQ with a narrow Q to remove just that frequency.

Use the 12.5k fader on the Anwida graphic and drop it to -12, it's the best that plug-in can do. I personally use the a Waves Q4 plug-in.

The 'Fizz' in a POD XT isn't something Line6 like to admit is there, but it is and can easily be removed. It isn't specifically at 13kHz, but is more often than not around that area.

I got the Waves Q4 plug in too. But I used the Anwida because I was using that one guys "Clarifier" setting with it. I still have yet to master the use of a parametric eq. *breaks a sweat*

I used the MOTU MetroWerks Parametric EQ (new in DP 4.5) and I notched at exactly 13khz and it zapped most of it. I then ran a lo pass on everything above 13khz because it's all garbage up there anyway. Here is the result:

This is a rough demo of a song idea with incomplete keyboards and bass, and very hastily programmed drum tracks. The guitars are all first take, quad-tracked. Guitar is ESP LTD MH 400NT with an EMG 85 in the bridge into a TS808 reissue and POD XT Live.

What amp model is that on the XTL? it sounds like the criminal.

Also, does the 808 before the pod sound significantly better than the 'screamer' model?

Good ears! My setting is indeed the Criminal amp, with 4x12 vintage 30 cab and MD421 mic. I used the same sound only with the SM57 for half the tracks(those are quieter in the mix but are panned about 80% as opposed to the 421 tracks which are hard panned.)

My TS808, and even my TS9 sound WAY better than the "screamer" emulation on the POD XT. To be perfectly honest with you, I would have given up on the XT if it weren't for how great it sounds with a real Tube Screamer in front! I don't know how Andy got such a great sound out of his XT a while back without anything in front of it...
