Greetings and News from Sun Caged!!!

Greetings prog music fans,

I want to take this moment to try and connect with you. If you already know of Sun Caged then this is a notice that your wait for the second album will soon be at an end! Artemisia will be released by Lion Music on March 23, 2007. If you have not heard of us yet, then this is an invitation to check us out!

I know this may seem somewhat “spam-ish” but this is not random. I’m taking the time to write this and post it here because I believe you will find our music to your liking. Let’s face it, the way the music industry is in this day and age, a band has to create its own success and there’s only one true way to do that: create public awareness, i.e. get your music heard by the people who matter: music fans!

We are essentially a new band again. Sure, our sound is still relevant to fans of the first album, but there is a new chemistry completely its own as well. Melodic and moody at times, but still plenty of hard hitting action…and of course mind-bending instrumental dexterity (don’t take that as arrogant self-praise, this is the singer talking, and I’m just giving you my opinion of the great instrumentals, lol)

We’ve been off the radar for a while, but Sun Caged has big plans for 2007. We’ve already got some great shows lined up including a cd release party in Helmond, NL (March 23rd) and a support slot for the mighty Spock’s Beard in May!

So please stop by our page at http://www.myspace.com/suncaged We have brand new pics and artwork up, plus a full album teaser, and one complete (8+ min) song for you to hear! (http://www.suncaged.com is still operational, but needs to be redesigned, so right now it’s just has some links and the album cover)

And finally, one more note: Our friends at http://www.thedividingline.com internet radio are going to debut the 10 minute mini epic “Bloodlines”. That’ll be Feb. 15th during The Rogue’s Gallery (which starts at 8:00pm Pacific time) and again on Feb. 16th during Epic Prog (which starts at 6:00pm Pacific time).

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and we hope to see you real soon!!!

Sincerely,

Paul Adrian Villarreal, (and on behalf of Marcel, Roel, Rene and Roel too)

I shall check out your band. I truly enjoy learning about new bands and being a fan of progressive metal, I'm sure I'll love the different songs you have. ^^

Hey, thanks for the open-mindedness and support! It's funny the polar opposite reactions people have to a post like mine.

The whole reason I even posted it is because I, like you, actually appreciate being turned on to new things via web forums and people of common interests...to me that what the whole derned internet thingy is all about... but many others just see it as spam. I don't blame people for having that opinion...I just wish people could take a post at face value rather than assuming there's some malicious intent lurking behind it. :lol

I completely agree. I've been exposed to so many bands due to the fact I take the time to read posts/threads that look interesting, or simply talking to a person that have an interest in music or something else, that I also enjoy. I manage to find so many different bands that it's incredible! But, as you pointed out, many people seem to think it's a spam message or perhaps the person is just trying to attract attention to themselves so choose to ignore it. They often miss out in a lot of great stuff.

Oh, and I might as well say that the song parts I listened to, I very much enjoyed them. I'll surely get an album if I manage to find one! I'll also try and tell my cousin about Sun Caged next time I see him as he's also a fan of progressive metal =)

Thanks again for the support people.

Yeah, about the guitarist...Marcel is amazing. It's an honor and a pleasure to make music with him. I actually got to know him through being a fan of his previous band "Lemur Voice" you guys might want to check out some of that stuff too when you get an opportunity. Also Marcel has his own myspace http://www.myspace.com/marcelcoenen

He's got samples of his recent works Colour Journey (album) and Live Time Journey (live dvd of Colour Journey project) which I was also happy to take a small part in :))

btw, just found about about Ron J. touring with Marty Freidman...man I hope I get a chance to see that!

Ha, I've known of Sun Caged and Marcel Coenen for a good while now. Nice to meet a Sun Caged member! :worship:

I've got an album of Marcel's called Guitartalk that is definitely one of the best guitar albums I own. His style seems to be somewhere between Vinnie Moore, Michael Angelo Batio, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. His frequent use of artificial harmonics is also reminiscent of the Dimebag (R.I.P) and Zakk Wylde guitar styles. I highly recommend him to anyone who's a fan of crazy, shreddy and soulful guitar music, which let's face it we all are here on Ron's forum :headbang:
