Lithgow, Oz
Just got back to town on Firday after nearly three weeks away, and the town was buzzing with a case of a near miss at work that was nearly fatal for one guy, and will certianly mean that a few senior managers at work will have their arses in slings for a while (which is good).

A free cookie to the first correct entry.

A bulldozer driver ended up buried under about 10 metres of ash for 4 hours.

I really feel for the poor bugger, as no-one knew where he was except that he, and his bulldozer, disappeared.

They got him out alright.

The Lithgow Mercury (aka Mercenary)??

It's full of shit.

The friday news won't be out until Tuesday. Saturday's paper is typeset on Friday, which means nothing past Thursday.

forget last post....where do you work to have bulldozers and ash!
At the power station, we burn 10,000 tonnes of coal per day (100m x 100m x 1m deep). We make 2000 tonnes of ash per day.

Guided tours can be provided for non-terrorist types.

We put it in a big pile, and bury bulldozers with it.

It's bullshit. In Europe, they have a legal obligation to use it for roadbase, building materials, anything. They cannot make electricity if they cannot get rid of the ash somewhere, in a responsible manner.

We make a big pile (or pit) of the stuff. I've suggested giving it to any company that will take it. Got jumped on, and was told that if a company wants it, then they can buy it from us, while we pay to build a pile.

Australian Governments are the ultimate fucktards when it comes to this sort of thing.

Dont get me wrong, im not going to protest or anything, I was just curious because thats a crapload of anything to be producing in one day! :)

Maybe you could make a movie set with it and rent it out or something. Planet Of Ash: Ashtronomical Atmosphere.
"Gee there is a lot of ash here"
"There sure is Jimmy, there sure is..."

Hey,
I personally think it's obscene.

This state burns about 100,000 tonnes of coal a day (100m x 100m, x 10m), we produce about 200,000 tonnes of CO2 per day (about what 60 million cars doing 100km per day would put out).

As to movies, look up "Earth Force", with Gil Gerard. It was filmed at Mount Piper (with reactor scenes at Kangaroo Valley), they reversed the flow of traffic on the Great Western Highway, stayed at "The Lithgow Valley Inn" (not a bad tepinyake resteraunt there), and blew up a few left hand drive vehicles on a friend's farm.

It's a shite movie, but really funny when you live in the area.

As usual our government will pick up the ball in about 20 years when Eurpeans have discovered a way to build a damn house outta ash, teh our Govenment, wil make use of it in road base, dunb behind the times fucks...
